fun fact: we had a guy on a forum I go to who swore up and down that Max Payne was a terrible game with terrible writing and that he couldn't stop laughing at Sam Lake changing his last name etc. etc.

The entire basis for his hatred? Remedy are Finnish and he was Swedish.

We eventually chased him off the forums because he was a fucking tardbat. That was just his most memorable moment.

I believe OP was referring to the Hetalia characters. So, OP doesn't mind Hetalia is incorrect, but doesn't want fans to think that Finland and Sweden's relations is actually correct to real life.

This. Thank you, OP - I share the same thoughts. Also a big part of the reason why I stay as far away from Sweden/Finland as possible when it comes to Hetalia.

The history Finland shares with Sweden is still a really sore spot for some, but unlike becoming really mad and throwing a shit-storm, these people just try to be as civil as possible because no-one really wants to talk about it.

Not saying there aren't Finnish or Swedish S/F shippers (because there are), but I wish people would look up this stuff more before going "oh, Sweden and Finland are such great friends ♥".

I'm a Finn. Finland and Sweden are friends, both are doing a lot of cooperation together, even if their ordinary citizens don't know much about it.

Finns and Swedes, not necessary. Some are, some are not.

While I might have some problems with some of the content of her comics (though I often ignore them because I'm not that interested in the topic of the story as I am in her characters), I think Humon does Sweden/Finland waaaay better than Himaruya. Actually she does most Scandinavian countries better than Himaruya.

Am I the only one to think that their relationship isn't like that in Hetalia, either? I mean, the whole Sweden-is-scary shtick gets old real fast and I irks me a bit, but Finland never actually accepted his role as the 'wife', did he? And I honestly think he never would, either. But maybe that's just me.

Actually reading some of the comics Finland hates when Sealand call him "mama" , and he can be pretty passive-aggressive about liking Sweden or not. It's mostly fandom who show their relationship like a married couple ...at last that's how I see it

Eh, I'm pretty sure that most of the sane fans don't assume that anything in Hetalia is going to be like that in RL, considering it's fairly obvious that most of it just wouldn't be...and considering how loosely based on the actual history the comics/episodes are - when they even mentioned historical events.

I agree to some extent, assuming I understand what you're getting at. People who assume Hetalia is 100% accurate bother me on any topic, but I don't mind that people ship SuFin in Hetalia. Hell, I ship it too, but I recognize that their actual history isn't quite how Hetalia shows it and definitely isn't how the fans portray it in fic.

Actually I think a lot of the fic oversimplifies the relationship. Even in Hetalia canon it's not shown as a happy and loving couple all the time. Or really ever. They have serious communication problems, for one thing.

I kind of agree. But I also think that the claim that the Finns hate the Swedes is equally incorrect. There's this silly sibling rivalry, but it's far from real hate and dislike. :) Finland has never been and will never be Sweden's "loving little wife", but Sweden is still our dearest neighbor!
