I've never gotten that feeling from him, but I dont watch a lot of interviews, I just follow him on Twitter. So, Firefly was a big influence on him, and he loved it. You want him to just forget about it simply because he's on a new show?

I think that's a bit too strong a word. I don't think he HATES Castle. I think he's just aware very that this isn't the best job he's ever had. It's regular, but it's not as compelling, especially since Castle doesn't have a good reason to be going out on cases as much.

I think he just knows that the problem with procedurals is they are exactly that.

Really? He always seems to enjoy working on the show to me. At least compared to his other projects (maybe not Firefly, but certainly stuff like Drive) and he really seems to like his castmates, which I think is a big part of it.

He was in love with one show as opposed to now loving this one. Different, but perfectly acceptable. Honestly, in every commentary or behind the scenes extra I've seen on Castle, it's apparent that he loves working on the show.

I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of NF's fanbase are Firefly fans (and that a lot of them don't even watch Castle) and that he knows that and is just throwing bones to his fans.

That, and he's a crazy huge Firefly fanboy himself.

This. I mean, it's like Gates McFadden, from Star Trek. She knows that the only reason she came back was fan reaction, so she knows first hand that you dont bite the hand that feeds you. Nathan knows his fans loved Firefly as much as he does, so he throws them mentions of it. I love Castle and would watch it on it's own, but I get a little thrill every time there's a Firefly bit snuck in there, like the catalyzer from Out of Gas, his Halloween costume, and the fact that he learned Chinese from a show he used to love.

But on the extras from my season 1 dvd, I can see he's really enjoying Castle as well. I loved it on twitter when they got renewed for a second, then third season and he didnt know what to do because he'd never had a show renewed before. :-)

See? This is why I will *never* watch Firefly. Seriously, I've seen all the interviews with Fillon and follow him on Twitter, and I've never even felt that he hates Castle.

Seriously, Firefly is over. And as great as it was, why can't Nathan Fillon do something else and love it as much as he loved Firefly?

Um, people watch shows that are over all the time. That doesn't stop them from being good. :|

Obviously, I didn't explain myself right.

What I don't like about Firefly is it's zealot fans. The ones that insist that it was the best show ever, that no show can compare and thus, keep bringing it up all the time. And it's not only with NF, but with all the actors that were in Firefly, no matter what they star in. It gets tiresome. I can get missing a show, I miss a lot of shows, but to actively say that the actor must hate the new show he's working in, even when the evidence points to the contrary, it's a little bit too much.

I feel the same, and I thought I was the only one. Not that he HATES Castle, but the level of love he exhibits towards Firefly vs. Castle is really noticeable, and for someone who never even watched Firefly and has no intention to because space shows put me to sleep, it bugs. I don't begrudge him missing working on the show or having loved that job to death, but it's been 5 years, so it just comes across kind of pathetic and over the top.

(Also, I'd understand it more if Firefly had run as long as, say, The X-Files and had that sort of trailblazing quality about it, but for a ~13-episode-long series it feels vastly exaggerated.)

Not the OP but isn't it possible that's WHY he hasn't been able to let it go? Be cause he feels the show never got the chance he and the fans think it deserved?

Also I think it's possible he's intentionally playing it up a bit because that's what he does in everything. Plus he knows how much the Firefly fans miss the show as well and he wants to keep the spirit alive.

After all, you can't stop the signal ;)

I don't think he hates Castle at all. I do agree that he loved Firefly a helluva lot, but what's wrong with that? Fans don't stop loving shows after they're over, so why should an actor who was actually involved in the show? If a cast clicks, it becomes like a family, and from seeing the cast interact at cons, they really love each other and hate that their time together was cut short.

I think it's awesome that he still loves it so much, and I don't think it's at the expense of Castle.

Nathan was in love with Firefly, and I definitely think that he loves Castle. And both are okay, really. Watching him in the extras on the DVDs of Castle and listening to the cast commentaries, it's apparent that Nathan loves Castle.

I'm still wondering if this is just fan butthurt over Nathan Fillion (in an interview about him and not Castle or Firefly) picking Inara from Firefly over Beckett from Castle. Because actors are never allowed personal opinions, at all, ever. It's not like picking one means that the other is the most horrible, terrible thing ever.

Nathan's a fun, down to earth guy, and I've always gotten the feeling that he loves working on Castle.

I've never gotten that impression. He's always seemed very humble and appreciative about his career and always has a kind word to say about anything he's been in.

He's never made a secret of the fact that Firefly was the tv show love of his life and that he'll never fall in love with a show that way again. But that doesn't mean that he'll never love any of the new shows he works in; it just means he'll love them as opposed to being in love with them. And that's okay.

With the performances I've seen him give week after week on Castle, I definitely think he loves it. He loves the show, loves the cast, and probably loves being employed. The hate/disdain/whateverbutthurt reason fans cast up (because the actor personally picked Inara over Beckett - REALLY, FANS? REALLY? It's not like the actor have a personal opinion, or anything.) is just not appearing there to me.

You know, aside from Filion -possibly- liking Firefly better than Castle (and I'm not saying he does), you also need to keep in mind that the shows are vastly different from each other. I mean, one's about space cowboys (to just put it bluntly) and the other's about a writer getting his inspiration from a cop. The characters Filion plays are very different as well, so I think at points it's a bit hard to compare.

Also, Castle did poke fun at Firefly at one point. (Season 2, the Halloween episode in which Castle's costume at the start was a 'space cowboy'). I think it's sort of awesome and it illustrates perfectly that the shows are quite different from each other. That being said, I love both <3

LOVED IT.

The shows are completely different and while Nathan may have been in love with Firefly, I think it's easy to see that he adores and loves Castle.

Not sure if that is really true (I don't watch his interviews and don't think that's the kind of thing you can truthfully get from watching them anyway) but I have to say I would completely understand why. It's sad; he deserves a better show.

I don't think he hates Castle. I'll agree, though, that every time the two shows are brought up in the same context, it feels like the housewife who ended up marrying the sweet, boring steady guy when she had previously been in a passionate romance with a spy. :( Not quiiiiite over the ex, but still happy to have the stability and love provided by the new love.

...I may have been watching too many Spanish soap operas recently, I'm trying to learn Spanish and I'm sick.

I feel like I saw or read an interview somewhere where he said he didn't find Castle to be particularly challenging (at all) but that it was a fun place and he loved coming to work every day. And while that's certainly a far cry from "This is the best job I'll ever have," it's hardly hating.

He actually really loves Castle and working on the show. But playing Mal was his favorite roll, so of course he's going to keep talking about it, years after it happened.
