I will NEVER forget Fern Gully, Anastasia, or the Land Before Time. All Dogs Go to Heaven is the primary reason I adopt rescue dogs instead of going to a fancy breeder. I also remember weeping like I have never wept at a Disney movie. Also American Tail wasn't Disney, was it? That was pretty awesome. And, like Land Before Time, it made me cling to my mom and beg her never to leave me.

With the exception of that troll one and Thumbelina -- just 'cuz I'm not familiar with either of them -- every one of those films can probably safely be called "iconic" and definitely has more fame to its name than many of the lesser-known Disney efforts (Black Cauldron? Come on, now...) No need to worry about them being forgotten "because they aren't Disney" anytime soon, OP :)

I wish I could forget Thumbelina and Fern Gully. Thankfully never got around to seeing a Troll in Central Park but I've never really heard anything good about it.

Also in Thumbelina wasn't she constantly going on about how "I'm marrying Cornelius" and she'd met him... once?

A Troll in Central Park? A Troll in Central Park? Really?

Look, most of those movies, yeah. I'm a big Don Bluth fan, even like Anastasia (and Titan AE--how do you even leave that out?). But there's nothing good about A Troll In Central Park. If you enjoy it, fine. But don't say it has better development than recent Disney movies, because that's not even a matter of opinion, it's just straight out false. It's a movie made of filler and bland, pasted caricatures. Crying shame.

Now, if it had been replaced with Titan A.E. or the Iron Giant, yeah, I'd probably be with you.

Some of those yeah, but ... Thumbelina? Thumbelina? It was so gross I wanted to be sick during most of it. The girl has no agency, no personality, and is put in tons of skeevy sexualized scenarios and only ever talks about marrying Cornelius/being in love with Cornelius and just. What. Even old school Disney is better than that.

Anastasia is great, though. I can't remember the other ones enough to really comment.

1. Quest for Camelot should be included.
2. Disney does have films that aren't centered around love. They're just usually not as popular.
3. Why does it have to be one or the other? I think both Disney animated films and other animated films have their good points and their bad points.

In the immortal words of Will Smith, AH HELLS NAH. My children will be watching All Dogs, and DEFINITELY Anastasia and Thumbelina (which remain two of my favourite films of all time, of ALL TIME. I am utterly heartbroken however that The Road to el Dorado didn't get a look in here. It is my life.

Secret of NIMH, Land Before Time, Anastasia and All Dogs Go To Heaven are among my favorites. Although to be fair, Disney has pretty much always been about the love. It's not a recent development and is just their niche.

I love Anastasia, and Land before Time -- but Fern Gully and Troll in Central Park are fucking terrible. Oh, and Titan AE was so obnoxious that I couldn't finish it. I wouldn't mind if those were forgotten.

But yeah, people give Disney way too much credit sometimes -- they've made some good movies, but the worship is ridic.

I hear and see people talking about these films all the time! Critically, I don't think they'll be as remembered as Disney films, but there are still a lot of fans out there who still love them and a lot of kids today still get to see them. My three year old niece's favorite movie is Thumbelina!
