Am I missing something, or is that picture not that bad? Yeah it's not amazing, but it's a hell of a lot better than I could do.

Plus everyone has to start somewhere. Why hate on someone for trying to help others? Also 'know your place?' Ouch.

Nnnnot really? The artist has a vague understanding of lighting but anatomically those drawings are very wonky. Not good enough to teach other people in any case :/

I'm no artist, but the colouring of the hair looks amazing. If she's only doing colouring tutorials like the text hints at (can't be sure, since it's covered) then what's the harm? The colouring seems good. Sure the actual drawing is a little oddly proportioned, but that could just be her style?

Like I said, I could not draw something like that to save my life.

The color didn't look so amazing to me. Actually, it seems a basic shading, everyone can do that kind of coloring after a little practice...

So, uh, agreeing with the op. But I have to say that "know your place" is kinda harsh. But a little more humility for some people can be good.

Also is that a bone-structure I see thar? because if it is, it's probably just a show-off. I mean, C'mon, you can't implying you had done anatomy studies and draw in that way. That poor girl.

I don't know the artist, but just from looking at it I expect the hair is just dodge and burn in Photoshop. This is the tool of the lazy artist: easy to make alright-looking results in a short time, but won't get a nice hand-painted look. seriously if you have photoshop, lay down a colour, grab the burn tool, put down some dark areas with it, get the dodge tool and put lighter highlights to one side of each dark area. done.

The left side of the secret shows a hand drawing tutorial that culminates in a finished drawing with seriously turrible structure.

Technique can be learned step by step, via tutorials or instruction. But the best advice when it comes to learning anatomy is OBSERVE.

Yeah, the tutorial is shrunk down, but it's easy to see the myriad mistakes this person is encouraging :/

I don't care if people lacking talent and skill draw for fun, but they absolutely should not post tutorials which encourage this level of ineptitude.

Well YMMV of course. I'm experienced at drawing myself and find OP's example rather humble; with the anime types it's often easy to tell they're only imitating patterns rather than having actual knowledge. I believe people should take tips from true professionals if they seriously think about improving their skills.

Granted I can't draw either.

Plus if people don't think this person is a fantastic artist well they're not going to use their turtorial anyway and I think there are some from great artists out there.

In any case the only thing she's really wasting OP is her own time then in any case if people decide the tutorial is not good enough to use so...

I've definitely seen worse pictures. Again, I think the hair is gorgeous, a lot of people can't get hair right.

Like an anon said below, it's probably a really nice tutorial for beginners to start with. That's a nicer way of putting it, at least.

I disagree. I look at that picture and immediately see that the person who made it doesn't really have a grasp on basics, although they're trying. For example, the tutorial hand's shading makes little sense and indicates that the artist is probably just imitating hands s/he saw drawn elsewhere. The other hand in the drawing is covered by a cloth because it was too hard to draw. The girl has no ears and the body's shading is as one dimensional as you can get....and it's still wrong in places. There's also little understanding of color.

I'm not saying s/he's awful, but definitely not in a position to teach others. At this point they're only parroting what others have said without truly understanding it. If someone new at art wants to a foundation, it's best to learn from someone who has actually mastered them. /opinions

It's not a very good drawing. It's ok, but clearly comes from the hand of someone who is learning how to draw from watching cartoons vs real life. The biggest tip off is all the shorthand visual cliches used in the drawing.

Look at it this way: you wouldn't want a math teacher who only had a passing knowledge that came from balancing their personal checkbook to be teaching you or your kids. So why would you take art instruction from someone with no training?

The tutorial above is 'hand tutorial' and ends up with a drawing of a really mangled hand. Yikes. Owch.

Bad artists really shouldn't be teaching people how to draw. It just ingrains those mistakes into people's technique, which can be hard to change later on.
