Oh, hi, there you are! You're the one I kept waiting for to tell me I have no business making tutorials! I put off doing one for a long time, even though I had several requests, because I thought you would be there pointing out that since I am not perfect there is nothing to be learned from seeing the way that I make something. But you were here the whole time.

Well. Now that we've finally met, I guess I can only say that 1) failing to know one's place is one of the best things an artist can do to get better, and 2) if you don't think that you can get better from looking at this person's tutorial then all you have to do is not use it. Their art is right there; if you like it then look at how they make art, if you don't then go look at something else. The Internet is big enough to have something on it you do not like and that's okay.

Um, as other people have pointed out, if others use this tutorial, they will be making these same mistakes and it will be hard to break them of it. It can be hard to improve when you get shitty advice.

1) What? An artist should know if their anatomy is good enough to help others, if not, mistakes can and will be passed on, 2)maybe OP feels second-hand embarrassment for the artist? I know I do. It's not okay when it spreads misinformation.

And I sincerely hope to god you're not making tutorials.

Sadly, god has not answered that particular prayer, because I am guilty of making art tutorials. I was also guilty of teaching basic art and math to elementary school children last year, possibly setting the art community back a hundred years.

I really don't think op is overwhelmed by embarrassment, since the word they used was "offended." I really don't think that the viral spread of poor proportion and shading is actually endangering the art world and I think everyone is making this a much bigger deal than it ought to be.

Elementary school children see art differently and chances are that the children will not take much from your class. The class is what...once a week? It's like any other class, if they don't practice at home, they won't remember it.

Secondly, it's a nice sentiment, it's nice when even beginner artists share what they know, but if they try to pass it as high education as the person in OP's picture seems to be? That's wrong. A lot of kids will try to learn from that, they'll learn bad things, wrong shortcuts and those things are extremely hard to unlearn. Tutorials like that do much more damage to a future artist than they do good.

I used tutorials like that when I was a kid. I learned from cartoons and anime. And now for the past four years I've been trying to get rid myself of those shortcuts to progress as an artist.

I'm sure there are lots of kids and older people who have no interest in ever getting better and that drawing like the person in the OP's picture is enough for them.

If you had any sense you probably taught them something very basic, as you said, which I assume you can handle decently yourself.

Even then a bunch of schoolkids hardly counts as an art community and probably only one or two kids of any group intend to become artists themselves. I doubt you'll be their only influence.

1) failing to know one's place is one of the best things an artist can do to get better

Wha....whaaaat? And you teach? Oh dear.

No, if "failing to know one's place" means "thinking you're better than you are" (which is usually what the phrase, harsh and outdated as it may be, does mean), then it's the absolute worst thing you can do for yourself as an artist. I watched plenty of people crash and burn because you know what "failing to know one's place" makes one? Unteachable. I lost count of the mediocre artists who dropped out of college because their professors wouldn't consider that their mistakes were their "style" instead of the students in question having the humility to listen to their professor's critique and try to apply it.

Humility doesn't mean shame. It's doesn't mean a lack of confidence. You can certainly have confidence without arrogance. Being humble means to acknowledge that you still have something to learn. If you "fail to know your place" and assume your art is better than it is, you're not going to be in the mindset to learn.
