They make fun of him because he's famous and they don't like him, not for his voice. They'll take any perceived shortcoming and mock it. If he had a deep voice, they'd still make fun of his hair, and so forth. Don't take it too personally.

There's always a big contingent out there--often young men, and guess what group is on the internet a lot?--who have a visceral hate for male pop stars. They hate that girls like them; they hate that their music doesn't conform to the rockist or rap alpha male aesthetic. Basically they hate that these guys flout gender conventions yet get the attention of the ladies. So they call them gay, because that's the worst insult they can come up with.

I remember being at a superbowl party--this was '99, I think, when Britney, N*SYNC and Aerosmith were doing the halftime show--and the guys were half drooling over Britney and half mocking N*SYNC and finally I said, "See the guy with the curly yellow hair? He's fucking Britney."

Their jaws dropped and they shut the fuck up, for once.

I don't really like him that much, but I feel really uneasy when people make fun of him for aging too slowly ("He's 17? Hahahahah, he seems like he's 12! Why hasn't he entered puberty yet?" and comments along those lines) because I didn't enter puberty until much, much later than is normal.

Having been in choir/etc myself when I as your age, don't let people hating a celebrity influence you. If you like singing, stick with it and don't let anyone get to you. If your school/area is anything like mine, nearly all of the choir kids were teased mercilessly (mostly that they were gay), especially the guys, regardless of their actual vocal range. It's just a hobby that seems dorky to kids between about age 12 and 17 or so and they can't appreciate it (moreso because kids now are so used to auto-tune they don't even know what good singing sounds like)

Tenors and men that can sing in falsetto are much more valuable than dime-a-dozen basses. Your higher pitch, if you sing well, will gets you preferential treatment in a lot of singing groups. I tend to prefer higher-pitched male voices, a lot of other women do, too.

Bieber's hatedom drives me insane for the same reason: "gay" is thrown around like it's the worst thing in the world, and they refuse to compute that due to his string of hot girlfriends, he might be bi but it's unlikely he's gay. I just never understood the level of hatred, considering he's no more omnipresent or untalented than any other tween-aimed celebrity. If you ever liked NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, Donny Osmond, NKOTB, etc, etc, you have no footing for bashing a musician who occupies the exact same niche as your heroes when you were that age.

Honestly I think the whole Justin Bieber hatedom is a little ridiculous. I understand trend aversion and I even understand finding it a little odd or funny that he's so successful, but I just don't get why people seem to hate him so obsessively and think it's totally okay to say all these completely horrible things about him.
As someone who's touchy about gender issues, it also kind of pisses me off everyone someone makes a huge deal out of "LOL HE LOOKS LIKE A GIRRRRRRRL"

But anyway, there are plenty of guys with high voices who sing beautifully. Don't let a bunch of irrationally hateful people bring you down, OP! <3

Just as I don't take Justin Bieber foaming fanbase seriously, I equally don't take the foaming haters seriously. In my opinion, most of the vocal haters are probably only a year or two above the lovers in age and just like hating something that seems "childish" so they feel better about themselves.
