AJ had so many great characters, but the writing did fall through in quite a few places.

And we will never get a sequel.

I love the Apollo Justice cast. A pity the game itself was so shitty. They really deserved another chance without the specter of the original three games sucking up all their limelight and emotional arcs.

[identity profile] deciphre.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The biggest mistake was sticking Phoenix in there. A reference or two would've been okay, but he just took over the game, really.

[identity profile] masked-creator.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
THIS, my god, it's nice to see someone else sees this. What they did to his personality sucked enough, but then he was there holding Apollo's hand in the courtroom and always showing up. I'm like "Um, hello, isn't Apollo the star now?"

[identity profile] hoa-dao.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I've only played through the game once (and loved it...) but I am replaying it right now (all these recent AA secrets prompted me XD)

So I'll look out for the flaws once I get there... To be honest I'm not one of those who can see writing flaws easily |D;; I tend to roll with it, ask questions later...

(Anonymous) 2011-03-18 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, I thought Klavier was the most boring rival so far. He didn't even have any flaws. Just a heap of cheap fangirl bait.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-18 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I can't even remember him putting up a fight at any point, whereas I vividly remember Edgeworth and Godot completely dicking me over by objecting to everything and getting away with it >:| (it was awesome)

[identity profile] deciphre.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Not to mention Franziska kept whipping you, and the judge... And everyone else.
...
Poor Scruffy.

AJ didn't have enough whipping.

[identity profile] lljscrawls.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought Edgeworth was a beast. Then I got to "Turnabout Goodbyes" and faced off against Manfred von Karma.

FUUUUUUU--!

[identity profile] berrylandia.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, seriously. The thrill and RAGE of facing those bastards was epic.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-19 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I actually thought Klavier was a breath of fresh air. >_>

All the prosecutors had this whole REVENGE, WILL DO ANYTHING TO WIN, RAGE thing about them. Klavier was the opposite. He seemed like a more normal guy. It isn't until later that we find out that he DID do something evil, however inadvertently, and helped his brother frame Phoenix.

I actually thought that was a brilliant way to twist the trope around. 0_o

[identity profile] 0o0f.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I do think he's very cute, so I even wanted to like him, but he just... proved to be too dull. When he was being a diva he was a little fun, though. Too bad he couldn't be MORE diva-ish. xP

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
This is the first secret in a good while where I completely agree with it and the comments in the thread. I definitely liked the AJ cast more than the game itself. Huh.

What?

(Anonymous) 2011-03-19 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
But Klavier DID question Kristoph. He even said that he had always wondered, all those years, how Kristoph could have known. He just never SAID anything because he didn't want to voice these questions to his brother.

If anything, I think it shows just the sort of psychological control Kristoph has over people. He does it to Vera, of course he's done it to Klavier. I think their relationship is fascinating, and wonder how many if Klavier's decisions in his life have been his own, or if they've all been to obey Kris or to rebel against him.

And Klavier does show his pissy/perfectionist side during the third case. I think Klavier is pretty damn interesting, he just needs to be fleshed out.

Re: What?

(Anonymous) 2011-03-19 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
No, he didn't question Kristoph.

He wondered, yes. But there's a difference between wondering and questioning. If he had questioned Kristoph, then he wouldn't have gone along with it in silence, he would have tried to find out how he knew.

Wondering =/= questioning

Re: What?

[identity profile] pandir.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
True, he didn't start questioning his brother until halfway through the trial.

Re: What?

(Anonymous) 2011-03-19 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Touché. XD

But seriously, he pretty much went "I wonder how Kristoph knows that... Oh well. *shrug*" And just goes along with it all and seems to genuinely consider Phoenix guilty because maybe it's a bit strange that his brother can somehow predict the future, but that's not worth looking into.

And hey, I like Klavier, I just thought the last case was badly written because the whole thing could have been solved in pretty much a day rather than seven years.

Re: What?

[identity profile] pandir.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if you accept the fact that although Kristoph has already been sentenced for murder before the last case even started, and Klavier was still trying to believe that he was innocent until he couldn't fool himself anymore...

I don't think it has anything to do with stupidity. Klavier simply didn't want to know - and refused to believe it until he had to face the truth (which he could only do with Apollo's help).
That tells you a lot about Klavier and his relationship to Kristoph, just like first Anon said.

Also, I don't think that things would have been so easily solved. I assume that Kristoph didn't give the forged evidence to Trucy in person, and don't forget that even though Phoenix thought there was something fishy, he did not fully realize who Kristoph was until Kristoph had killed Zak Gramarye.
Until that point, no one had suspected Kristoph.
(And as soon as Phoenix knew were to look, he got all the evidence he needed pretty quickly.)

Re: What?

(Anonymous) 2011-03-20 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, while I did find it interesting that Klavier so desperately didn't want to believe that his brother had made a complete sham of his first trial and made him make an innocent and skilled attorney lose his badge... I still find it odd that a person so interested in the truth wouldn't even wonder if maybe someone tipped his brother off and if so, who?

I haven't said anything about stupidity, have I?

The problem with "Kristoph didn't give it to Trucy in person" is that then he must have given it to someone else, and that person can testify to who gave it to them. There is no way for Kristoph to avoid that trail. The only reason he got away with it was because no one asked any questions. Heck, even Phoenix didn't ask any questions of that nature.

And hey, to quote Phoenix directly "I received the files from your previous attorney only yesterday." So either he met Kristoph, or someone who pretended to be Kristoph. Shouldn't he have gone back to that person and checked if they knew anything about the diary page as they were the ones to did all the preliminary research?

Re: What?

[identity profile] pandir.livejournal.com 2011-03-20 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
With stupidity, I was referring to the secret - and here my case still stands.
It does strike one as odd, and it doesn't seem to fit to what is known about his character up to then, which emphasizes what has also implicated throughout Kristoph's crossexamination: Kristoph seems to have had a lot of control over Klavier.
So I wouldn't say this one is a plot hole/bad writing.

But I have to agree: it seems odd that Phoenix did not investigate in that direction earlier. The game does not explain how Kristoph managed that nobody ever questioned who the hell gave Trucy the evidence or that nobody seemed to know he was the lawyer to defend Zak.
It really is a plot hole, and one of the many moments I asked myself throughout the AA games: Couldn't people have figured that one out before (or at least much easier)...?

Re: What?

(Anonymous) 2011-03-20 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I think part of it may have been that when Phoenix went digging around into the forged evidence's background and met the Misham's, he realized that whoever did this was an intimidating and possibly dangerous person. The little girl thinks he's the devil, for crying out loud!

I don't think it's that Phoenix couldn't have accused Kris, but that he wanted to wait until he had enough proof to nail the guy, so that Kris couldn't worm his way out of it. Kris IS a great attorney, after all. If he'd made a good case for himself and gotten off, then he would've come after Phoenix for trying to get him arrested. Phoenix had to be cautious, he knew he was dealing with someone with the potential to be dangerous.

But Phoenix simply could NOT get enough decisive evidence. He could ask Trucy who gave her the letter, but we don't know how Kristoph managed this. He could have had anyone deliver it to Trucy for him, some random person who they would never track down. Phoenix also couldn't prove that Kristoph had ordered the evidence, since it wasn't included in the evidence file he had gotten from Kristoph. Vera was too terrified and vague on who had ordered the letter to testify. What's more, Kristoph had been smart enough to *defend* Phoenix when he lost his badge, making Kristoph look innocent in the process.

Phoenix had to lay low until he had enough evidence to nail the guy. It just took longer than expected.

Re: What?

(Anonymous) 2011-03-21 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
... I can't see the secret saying anything about stupidity. Just that the case was badly done and ill put together. There's nothing about stupidity.

Klavier was always more about the truth than about winning, which I guess is why some people felt that he didn't put up as much of a fight as, say, Edgeworth. (Of course, Edgeworth was also all about the truth... later). I guess you could say Klavier might not have been as much as a plot hole, but how can no one else question why Klavier knew? Everyone just accepted that Klavier just happened to have a witness ready... no one even asks how.

And as to what that new anon (who didn't identify themselves as such, but I'd hope it was obvious what with our different stances on the whole thing) said about Kristoph not going in person... that means that there is someone else who ties Kristoph to the whole thing. Have Trucy explain what the guy looks like to an artist, ask the bailiffs if they've seen a person who look like that, hell, even search publicly. The guy is going to wonder what it all is about and when he finds out what happened, he most likely would just go "No, man, I got that from someone else." and then HE gives a description of Kristoph.

As long as there are humans involved, Kristoph can't keep it 100% airtight. But it's all treated like there was no way anyone could possibly solve this case seven years earlier. Heck, before Apollo questions Klavier's readiness with Klavier's prompting, no one does. And that's just strange.

Klavier is all like "I knew you'd do it if I pressed you hard enough." and no one even wonders how he knew.

Also, about Phoenix figuring that Kristoph is intimidating and possibly dangerous... when has that ever stopped him? Can you say Furio Tigre? Hello?

So much that.
Agreed, the game had a some pretty big logic holes (just like the others, but let's not argue about which were bigger now) - but this one was on purpose.

I'm astonished that so many people thought it to be "stupid" rather than something quite interesting and telling about Klavier's relationship to Kristoph.

If people didn't pick that up, it's no wonder they thought he was boring. I did at first, before playing the whole game. Klavier has lots of flaws, but he covers them up with sparkles, so you have to look closer.
