i'm willing to bet everyone above me who's claiming the song was "criticizing rape" and "empowering"
(Anonymous) 2011-03-20 03:23 am (UTC)(link)people find the song funny. that's obvious. want to know why? because it's an autotuning of a rant from a flamboyant black guy who talks like a stereotypical kid from the ghetto. people took his anger over the attempted rape of his sister and made it into a joke because hey, look, look how BLACK he is, he's so OVER THE TOP, he's so HOOD... i've even seen people justifying racism with it (well, hey, some of them really do talk like that!)
do you really think the guys from autotune the news are anti-rape crusaders? no. please stop viewing something racist and offensive through your go-girl feminist lens. sure, it's awesome that he helped prevent his sister's rape. sure, it's awesome that they moved out of a dangerous neighborhood. but don't rationalize the crap out of it and then pat yourselves on the back for being good white people.
also, the media circus focused on antoine, and not at all on kelly. who, you know. was the one who almost got raped. so yeah. just more erasure of women of color, no big deal, go back to fangirling over your anime.
