I don't think they'd do it. Ever since that Fauz News scandal about the 4 seconds of butt in ME1 Bioware has kept gay in the Mass Effect series to a minimum, which is a disappointment because I love Ashley (whose f!Shep romance dialogue is still in the actual game..) and Tali. I would have some hope if you couldn't romance her at all in ME2- but m!Shep can. I doubt they'll add a femshep romance :(((

(Anonymous) 2011-03-20 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Dragon Age 2 has a castful of bi. I think it's possible. Not to mention you can totally flirt with her as fem!Shep in ME2 anyway, she just gets all flustered and shy and you can't bring it up with her after that.

All of the ME games have gay romance dialogue, which kinda makes me go 'lolwut'? that they would spend time recording these things and then take the option of getting to them.

[identity profile] fauxfaia.livejournal.com 2011-03-20 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
er *take away the option

[identity profile] micromyni.livejournal.com 2011-03-20 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, if only.

[identity profile] sugarsurge.livejournal.com 2011-03-20 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Waaaaaaannnnnnntttttt. I'd play through both games again just to hold out for Tali in ME3.

Now to be slightly off topic: Every time I see or read something that details what Quarians look like under their envirosuits, I have this kneejerk reaction of "No honey no". This goes double if they look as human as OP's picture. Am I like, the only one who just never wants to/doesn't give a fuck what they look like behind that visor?

[identity profile] saltintheoven.livejournal.com 2011-03-20 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I kinda don't want to know, mostly because I feel like whatever ended up being 'canon' would still feel wrong to me.

I do totally agree that most versions look way too human. Quarians definitely shouldn't have hair, as far as I'm concerned; does nobody care how gross that would actually be?

(Anonymous) 2011-03-20 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Me neither! (... or is that, 'me too'?) I don't want to see a Quarian outside their suit/without a visor. Although, why is the visor not see-through? Because the Quarians don't want people to see them?

Hmmm. I might make one exception, though: if they retake the homeworld and some elderly Quarian takes off their mask to see the sunset. (the Quarian would probably die from the exposure, but they're old, this is just their one last wish)

(Anonymous) 2011-03-20 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
If they show a Quarian face in ME3, I will shit myself with rage. If Quarians turn out to be conventionally attractive by human standards, that's it - between that and DA2, I will never buy another Bioware game, swear to god.

I trust the Bioware A team though, I don't think they will do it!

[identity profile] paopaotang.livejournal.com 2011-03-20 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I definitely don't want to know what they look like. The mystery is part of the charm.

[identity profile] demeure.livejournal.com 2011-03-21 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
SO MUCH, I was looking at that going "why is there a human underneath Tali's suit??"

I like the mystery better. But. If we do have to find out, I want it to be weird, okay. They have goat legs, it has to be at least a little bizarre.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-20 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The BW powers-that-be have already said that Shepard is straight, so don't hold your breath. (It's a pretty stupid statement considering you can romance Liara as a femShep, but apparently they're still clinging to the "it's not really lesbian if it's an asari!" farce.)

[identity profile] myrasis.livejournal.com 2011-03-21 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, they're saying that no matter what, your character is straight?

wat.

[identity profile] phoeliac.livejournal.com 2011-03-22 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
They stated that Shepard has set attractions and personality, which is why Male!Shepard is straight. Which is logic fail of the highest order as Fem!Shep, having the same personality, should only be attracted to women as a result.

Though I was on the Bioware boards recently and Gaider got involved in a discussion about this and seemed to genuinely not understand why this was a logic fail. When someone explained that if this was true then Fem!Shep would have to be exclusively gay he finally went "oh, that makes sense", and then dropped it pretty much immediately. So...I'm guessing that they still won't do anything about it :/

EABioware giving the fans what they want? Please.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-20 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm on the fence about this. On the one hand, what other people do in their playthroughs does not affect mine (or only in terms of a few lines of dialogue at the start of potential romances). On the other hand, I prefer knowing that characters are 'consistent' across all playthrough. It's why I didn't like DAII's cast of all-bisexual characters. Although I fully support Bioware in including homosexual and bisexual characters, I'd rather have certain characters only available to certain genders and orientations. It seems more realistic that way and I prefer that. Some people are straight, some are gay, some are bi, we already have salarians and geth for asexual (I do NOT want a salarian romance option, no matter how they write it, it would feel like blatant suspension-of-disbelief-breaking retconning fanservice to me).
That being said, the ME-franchise is sorely lacking in bisexual/homosexual romances. If it's the choice between only straight or everyone is bi, I'll settle for the latter.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-20 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
(same anon) Oh, and also, having certain romance options available only to certain genders and orientations increases the replay value for me. It encourages me on a replay to really create a different character rather than do all the stuff I thought was cool/the right thing to do on the first playthrough.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-20 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
About the salarian thing, wasn't there a salarian on Illium that has a relationship with an asari? So while they may be asexual, it IS possible for them to want to have a relationship/be in love.

And yes, I agree that ME definitely needs to include other romances besides just straight, ESPECIALLY for DudeSheps. Bioware doesn't seem to have this problem with any other franchise for some reason, so why the hesitation now? I think one of the developers gave some BS excuse that Shepard has an established personality or something. Which doesn't even make sense since 1. S/he can be a righteous do-gooder or a colossal dick, 2. FemShep has the option to express interest in women and 3. That didn't stop them from making Hawke be able to engage in relationships with both genders.

[identity profile] demeure.livejournal.com 2011-03-21 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Curious: why does having a cast of all bisexual romance options (because all the characters aren't bisexual, Lady Hawke can flirt with Aveline until the cows come home and Aveline is just like "you're such a good friend to me, Hawke.") make the characters less consistent across all playthroughs?

DA2 has all bi romances, so with any luck MA3 will too. having everyone available for both Shepards would be very nice.

[identity profile] demeure.livejournal.com 2011-03-21 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I love the FemShep/Liara romance so muchhhhhh but for Tali I would absolutely do an entire new playthrough, I just… She is so wonderful. I can't even really words.

The character sexualities in DA2 being fluid does a lot to give me hope that we'll see something similar in ME3, so, *crosses fingers*.

Still holding out hope for romanceable Legion, over here. (Also male!Shep/Zaeed would make me happy in the pants.)

[identity profile] myrasis.livejournal.com 2011-03-21 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Zaeed had better be in the damn game in the first place, and I better be able to actually TALK to him, romance would just be the icing in the cake. He's one of my favourites <3
