I agree, OP. I was astounded to see he had so many fans, but I don't really know why as he is the "mysterious bishie slash-bait antagonist" which is everything fangirls seem to want in a man.

Yeah, agreed. Normally I wouldn't find his character so annoying, but since I actually know TWO people like him IRL... OMG so annoying 8(
And no, they're not Pokemon fans, they have other causes to fight for.

I think, in general, he only has a pokemon team to take on the main character and test their strength/ see if they're worthy to be a hero/ and try to understand why the MC is so different/etc. After every battle, he releases his pokemon and then catches a new team in the areas you see him next, which sort of follows with the whole "I don't want to keep pokemon in pokeballs, and after I borrow their strength I'll let them go."

I dunno. I see him as a completely new and refreshing take on the rival and is a heavy juxtaposition to the stereotypical one you normally see in games (which in Black/White is filled by Cheren.)

At first I was kind of intrigued by the character, but by like the third time he showed up and started babbling about stupid crap I was just, "Get out of my face, weirdo."

I liked his design a lot at first, but then his AMAZINGLY apparent shut-in craziness really put me off. It'd feel like crushing on some kind of mentally broken feral child. no thanks.
He gets less annoying towards the end though, when he starts making sense and acting more like a human, haha.


I dont hate him but i have to try REALLY hard to like him, especially with all the extremely typical and expected popularity he's gotten.

He's kind of incoherent and hypocritical-- which sort of makes sense considering the stuff I spoilered for myself a few days ago, but I can still see where other people would find that obnoxious.

Not to mention, I usually just like Pokemon rivals for the pretty eyecandy, and man oh man N is pretty. Then there's the shippers and that one scene... yeah.

TL;DR YMMV and that's okay.

See, for me, N's one of those complex characters when I don't know if I want to punch him, send him to therapy, hug him, or tap that sexy ass. I just. SO MANY CONFLICTING EMOTIONS. *flails*

Also, goddammit, we NEED to know what becomes of him after the main storyline in the third version or I will cry, I swear to God. ;A;

I think he's a weirdo but at the same time I think he and Plasma are much better than the nonsense Diamond and Pearl put out with Cyrus and Galactic. There's a certain level of seriousness in my Poke'mons I can't stand and he crossed the line big time. N and Plasma delve into thinking about the way the Poke'mon world works, which is interesting. Cyrus...I don't even know what the hell his deal was.

I guess I like N enough, but I really don't see what's so amazingly complex, mysterious and incredible about him. Normally I love slightly mentally unstable and good-looking rival characters, but for some reason N didn't appeal all that strongly to me. Maybe it's his character design? I don't know. I have nothing against people who love him, though.

(Silver is still my favourite.)
