I always play a girl, so I'm more into N/Female Main Character (but Male Character works just as well of course...)

Anyway, it added a lot to my enjoyment on the game, so I don't blame you a bit. And I don't think it's any more "shallow" than liking the game for any other reason.

The plot's been getting more and more developed over Pokemon's run, hasn't it? Gens 4 and 5 have really been heavy on the plot, almost more than on the "getting the badges and being THE VERY BEST, LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS".

Gen 1 - Destroy the Mafia as a glorified sidequest.
Gen 2 - The Mafia tries to get back together. Destroy them again.
Gen 3 - Extreme environmentalists fail basic ecology forever.
Gen 4 - Charismatic nutter tries to destroy the universe because feelings make him uncomfortable.
Gen 5 - PETA-cult led by a socially-impaired but extremely empathic and rather creepy bishounen.

And it's okay that you want to ship N/protag so hard. The games are still kind of new now, so I'm sure the fandom will pick up in a little bit, and then you and I will find a lot of other shippers to hang out and look shallow with. :D (though to be fair I'm a multishipper and tend to ship everybody with everybody in all of my fandoms except DF)

lol, this XD I admit I was sort of baffled when at the end (the *official* end) of Pokemon BW you don't even get to face Alder and become the new champion and so on (since /that/ used to be the focus of the game) XD But I really liked the plot, so it doesn't really matter XD

Anytime I ever see Main Character/Canon Person (be it N or a Gym Leader, what have you) it always comes off as a terrible Mary Sue insert to me. Since, you know, being a silent protagonist and all, you're just projecting yourself on to the character.

I feel so alone in this opinion.

TBH, the player character has -yay with about EVERYONE, so if you have some idea of what kind of personality you'd ascribe to the player character, go right ahead.

I prefer N with the male protag, based upon the personalities I've ascribed to the PCs, but even though it's less popular in the English-speaking fandom than N/fem!Protag, I'm with you, OP. If you use pixiv, the pairing's tag is "N主♂"--that should give you several hours of fangirly pleasure. xD
