well yes it's true that some people aren't successful because other people are racist or sexist or classist

but that's not okay, you know

that's bad

people should judge others on their character and personality, not their skin tone, class, sex, gender, orientation, or anything like that

Hey, I wasn't saying that I judge people because of stuff like that. That's not the way my parents raised me. I was just saying, yeah, racism and class-ism does exist and, yeah, some people may not get the life they want because of it.

I dunno. I feel like passive acknowledgment is frowned upon.

Sigh... *grabs popcorn*

that one equius-hating anon is going to have a field day with this!

^ this

the whole y'know choked to death by a member of the supposedly 'superior' caste thing

n' all

[identity profile] yucari.livejournal.com 2011-04-03 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
well it's not as if characters who fight to overcome their character flaws escape death, either

(see: Tavros.)

[identity profile] sugarsurge.livejournal.com 2011-04-03 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much this.

Character flaw, bro, not strength.

+1

Also because he was the subbiest sub to ever submit but yeah the caste thing too. Because he fetishized the caste thing to absurd levels.

[identity profile] cheshirecgrin.livejournal.com 2011-04-03 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
You...realize that thinking that way is Equius' character flaw, right? And that it was that manner of thinking that ultimately led to his death?

And while it's unfortunately true that social status and race can play a part in the cards that people are dealt and where they end up in life, this is not a good thing.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-03 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The point is that while that's true at the current period in time, and has been true for centuries in some for or other- that people are treated differently based on their race and their class- doesn't mean that it's right, or that it should be that way. Believing so deeply in the hemospectrum is not an admirable trait of any of the trolls that do that. It leads to some serious character flaws, and not just with Equius. You can see it in Eridan too.

But more to the point, just because that's true doesn't mean you should just accept it as the be all and end all, and not try to actively change that. It didn't work out well for Equius. It's upholding a system that is inherently unfair and flawed. It's not okay to just go this is the way things are, and that's the way it'll always be, and that's just life.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-03 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Are the person who submitted that "I was I lived on Alternia because all the weak inferior people would get culled!" secret? Because if so fuck off.

you should shoot yourself

No You Should Not

[identity profile] alanahikarichan.livejournal.com 2011-04-03 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Anon, stop that. I disagree with them too, but you do not wish suicide on others.

Anyway, they're clearly intelligent enough to be a Homestuck fan; hopefully they're also intelligent enough to learn better.

uh no they should be shot by an arrow and strangled, duh

(Anonymous) 2011-04-03 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
you sound like a business major.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-03 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
being aware of that is okay, because it's the truth

being okay with that is not in any fucking way acceptable. going "yeah, racism happens, oh well" is dickish.

the reason why it's good to be aware of things like that is so you can try to improve the situation for the people being discriminated against, not so you can shrug your shoulders and say "well, whatever, these things happen, so i can go ahead and be a cynical asshole about it!"

(Anonymous) 2011-04-03 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, FFS, are you trolls even trying? *grabs popcorn*

[identity profile] rmg.livejournal.com 2011-04-03 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
this attitude literally got equius killed you know

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2011-04-03 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
so you know that things like race and class negatively affect people who are less fortunate than you... and you choose to ignore that because it's their fault or something?

are you aware of the fact that you're a shitty person or what

[identity profile] miss_prince.livejournal.com 2011-04-03 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard this comment in Fluttershy's voice.

It was awesome.

I don't agree with this at all. Somebody's race/social standing can affect how others view them (sadly) but it doesn't stand in the way of someone having a happy life. The struggle may be harder but the payout is the same.

I know I might be feeding a troll, but I had a LOT of fun writing this, so joke's on them...

(Anonymous) 2011-04-03 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*Not everyone will have a happy ending. Not everyone will be a success...sometimes it's because of someone's race/social standing.*

Oh, you mean like how out of the four highest-blooded trolls, only one is still alive and well? You mean how Aradia, as the lowest-blooded troll, is arguably the most happy and successful out of the bunch at this point?

Ok, all snark aside, I think we may be reading two different stories here. The message I'm getting from the story is that this line of thought is horribly flawed and will lead to only bad things *nods to the other people in the thread who have already made this point* Yes, Equius believes in classism. However, through exposition, he is blatantly shown to be wrong! BLATANTLY. And I'm not even talking about his death here. Feferi, as one of the supposedly "violent", "unpredictable" purple bloods, is one of the nicest trolls. Aradia, as one of the supposedly "vile", "disgusting" rust bloods, is one of the most classy. OP anon, how could you feel "better" about your thoughts if they're shown to be "wrong" within the story?

Also, I'd STRONGLY (hehehe) argue that deep down Equius doesn't really believe the crap he says. I dunno, I could be wrong, but it always felt to me like there was always an undercurrent of doubt in everything he said. It always felt like...kind of like he was following a script. Yeah, that's a good way to put it. He always felt, at least to me, like he was following a script in which he didn't really believe. Like he was only playing a role that he was expected to play. I think his uncontrollable redrom for Aradia is the most obvious example of this, because he pretty much says, word for word, that it's her actions and personality that made him fall for her, not just...well, the way she looks...or the whole kink he develops over being controlled by her, hehehe. :P

Ok, to avoid turning this into an Equius/Aradia essay...I'll leave it there. I may check this thread later...I might not. Whatever, this was fun. Lets do this again sometime.

*Scurries off*

OP here

I uh, realize now that, maybe perhaps, my point of view is, uhh, very dickish. If possible, I would like to rescind this secret because, um, racism is not okay. I apologize sincerely to anyone that may have been offended.
