Wait, I don't understand. You won't read a fic because you don't like customized comment pages, which usually only affect readability of the comments, and not the fic itself, because somehow knowing that the comments are different distracts you.

Yeah, the reader could just add ?style=mine, but is it her/his job to make the story readable? No. If the author really wants that people read their fics, in the perfect world they'd make it as easy as possible. And you know, with LJ and it's customizing options, it's really easy. No one but you, author, really cares about your layout or wants to see it while reading your entries.

Two choices anon:

1) ?Style=mine. Tack that to the end of all the LJ links you don't like and voila, problem solved.

or even easier:

2) Put this in your bookmark's bar and just click it and voila, whereever you are, on or off LJ is now perfectly readable. (https://www.readability.com/addons)

You know, OP, you are assuming that the person who owns the journal actually realizes that the journal style they picked by clicking on a ticky box gives them the option of doing what you ask?

Given how many times I've had to explain things as basic as how to put italics into comments, etc., I'd far rather depend on a solution that relies on my own technical know-how than someone stranger's.
