Yeah see, I personally see White as a strong, confident, brash girl who would totally be the one to comfort/take charge with N and all his troubles. So uh yeah if I were to pair them it would be like how you described N/black anyway.

I wish fanart was drawn that way more often though, dang. I know she's a blank slate, but blushy-crying-timid White just feels so wrong. When I played the game I saw my player character as a girl who stood her ground and made an impact on N, not all "omg he's taking me to the ferris wheel~~ *blush*" Though I guess it helps I'm not really that attracted to him, haha.

Come to think of it, I have a hard time pairing Black with ANYONE because he barely exists to me. I played with White! So... I've seen none of him in my play-through so he's not really on my canon character radar. I kind forget about him sometimes! Am I alone in this?

I made the secret from a manga canon point of view. I know from the games it just sounds idiotic, because that's open to the player's interpretation. Though you're right in your first point. In the manga White's a very loud, tough girl from what I read. ^__^
