The only icon I've seen that honestly made my skin crawl was one I used to see on here all the time, but haven't in a while. I don't remember whose it was, but it was this picture of a woman sticking her tongue out and the tongue morphed into a lizard sitting on her cheek (it was a still, not a gif.) I would actually wince every time I saw that. It freaked the crap out of me for some reason.

Some animated ones are, yes. I find the ones that loop a very short movement rather distracting when I'm trying to read comments. It's easier to just AdBlock them.
They're like the icon equivalent of the auto-play midis people used to put on websites--sometimes fun and sometimes annoying or distracting.

I love adblock. It has made my LJ and internet experience so much better!

Because not only do a lot of gifs/images/icons annoy the hell out of me, some trigger seizures. AdBlock, among other add ons, are a definite plus for those with epilepsy. (As is the esc key, which will stop all animations. I learned that embarrassingly late.)

I use adblock to remove those tacky gif-sidebars of fail and those tacky as fuck repeating image backgrounds some people still insist upon having. It's great.

You need Adblock just so you don't have to look at someone else's 100x100 icons because you don't like them? Wow, dude. That's a little uh. I don't even know what the word is I want. Shallow? Snooty? Kind of a waste of your time and energy?

I use adblock for a similar purpose. Only it's not so much fandoms that annoy me. Sometimes there's some squicky stuff in icons that I just don't want to see. But more frequently it's the certain type of high speed animated flashy icon that is just freaking migraine inducing. Discovering this feature made the internet so much less painful.

The day I found out how to adblock icons on LJ definitely made my LJ experience better. So I hear you on the whole 'LJ experience greatly improved' OP.

For those who are claiming the OP is being snobbish, elitist, overreacting, shouldn't be bothered by a little 100 x 100 icon, surely they're not *that* annoying, etc etc. None of you know why the OP finds blocking certain icons an improvement of their LJ experience. Maybe there are icons that are triggers for them, maybe they have a phobia. The phobia thing was certainly the case for me, I had to block someone's icon, because it featured an image of something I am severely phobic about - to the point that even seeing a picture will send me into a state of terror filled panic. So yeah, not all of us who appreciate being able to block icons on LJ are doing it to be special little elitist snowflakes.
