While I don't think Homestuck is the conspiracy you see it as (I just think the entire thing is a huge joke, actually), I DO agree about how fandom tries WAY too hard to legitimize it's socially stunted behaviors. I really wish people would realize that just because something is 'making someone happy' doesn't necessarily mean it's good for them. Crack makes crack addicts giddy with glee, but you don't see anyone hand-waving that as ok and that everyone who denounces it is a hater.

Also, it seems like 95% of the posters responding glazed over your point or misunderstood.

Crack has a well-documented and well-understood negative impact on health.

Fandom really does not. The closest you come is that there are problems associated with sedentary lifestyles, but that can be fixed by exercising more (and fandom his hardly the only sedentary lifestyle). It does not imply a mandate to wholly reshape one's social life and how one relates to others.

Internet addiction most CERTAINLY is a serious addiction, and has documented negative impact on health.

Also, my point with crack was that most of the same excuses heard in fandom can be used on drugs, because, now say it with me kids: just because it feels good doesn't mean it's good for you. Just because it's 'not hurting anyone else' doesn't mean it's not hurting YOU.

>Most certainly

And yet it is not in any edition of the DSM. And yet there is no consensus in the psychological community - a search shows up as many articles criticizing the validity of the concept as not. And yet, as the former classification of homosexuality as a mental disorder shows, psychologists are certainly not immune to the prejudices of their time.

oooookay.

I agree with you :/
Sometimes it helps to socialize, but if there would be no internet fandom, I think some of the people who shut themselves in now would be more likely to try and go out in the world... than to arrange themselves with the situation.

Of course, a number of people would die :|
-means this more serious than it sounds-

The last thing humankind will invent is artificial reality.
