Agreed.

I really don't think Rose is Sue-ish at all. She's pretty much introduced as a school drop-out that has no direction to her life or goals. She fucks up. She's irrational sometimes. She "saves the day" twice ("Rose" and "Bad Wolf"). I think people only call her a Sue because Ten loved her so much, which I think is just anti-romantic!Doctor people being butthurt. She may not have be "The Doctor's" true love but she was Ten's. He loved her. People fall in love. So what? He lost her tragically and he pined. People pine. So what? Get over it already.

River's story is completely tied up in the Doctor's. It has been since we met her. Doesn't it make sense that the show is going to revolve around her a bit in the season that we finally find out who she is? Besides, hating her because the show is revolving around her now is like hating the Master because the show revolved around him for a while. She's a big part of the story.

I don't hate Rose. I hate the fans that see her as the End-all-be-all of the Doctors' Many companions and possible lovers.

Well I agree. That's just ridiculous. Like I said, she was the love of Ten's life, not the Doctor's.

Yeah. I once read a fic where, the writer was going on and about various companions old and new basically concluded Rose was the best. I almost punched the screen.

I think Reinette was the love of Ten's life, or maybe Donna. If he cared that much about Rose, he wouldn't have made a habit of abandoning her on beaches.

I think Donna was the love of his life in a platonic sense. There's no doubt he had a deeper bond with Donna than any of the other companions. But a part of that is that she understood how he felt about Rose.

I can't stand that, either. Another problem I have is some of her stans, which can include people I know. I mean..it's clearly obvious she has flaws, which is what helps to makes a well-rounded character, but they don't seem to want to face that concept.

I think people (including me) call her a Sue because of what her fans made her into. I know it's not fair to the character but I just can't forget all those "self-insert" Rose fanfictions. :(

Having said all that I didn't like her even before I started reading fanfiction in this fandom. God that character was annoying. Same level annoying as Gwen in Torchwood. It's the "I don't really know how this works, but I'm still going to be the best".

Ah, I don't read DW fanfic. It actually never occurred to me that people actually wrote it lol. IDK why the thought never crossed my mind.

I got that vibe from Gwen in the beginning but I never really got it from Rose. I got more of an "I don't know how this works but I'm still gonna try my damn hardest" from Rose. IDK maybe that's just me.
