oh man, anon, i know what you mean. k-pop has totally changed my attitude for the better. i feel a lot more confident and happy when i listen to the music. but at the same time, being involved in the fandom has definitely made me way more aware of my physical flaws, and much harder on myself for them ... so i guess it's sort of a false confidence. sigh. i guess that makes the following advice sort of hypocritical.

but please do remember, anon. they spend a lot of time working out and having professional stylists making sure they look beautiful, because being beautiful is a huge part of their job. i don't know if you saw those pictures that leaked a while back of 2NE1 without any make-up on, but they looked much, much different than they do with it on. almost all of those idols are wearing really thick layers of make-up and spending hours dancing and working out. it's just not practical for an "ordinary" person, and it shouldn't necessarily be.

i know that got tl;dr, but what i mean to say is, please please don't judge yourself by k-pop idol standards. we don't see everything that goes on behind the scenes. and i doubt you are even close to as fat, ugly, and unwanted as you think you are. ♥

This. I forgot to mention in my comment the important prevalence of stylists. They all have stylists and makeup artists and wardrobe coordinators.

I would also like to add that maybe you could use them as inspiration? For me, certain groups have made me more willing to exercise/take care of my body. Use your love of them in a good way, don't use them to put yourself down.

For years and years I used to hate on make-up, until I realized it was just a tool for building self-confidence. It's amazing how transformative it is - and how yes, it's true, a LOT of what makes these celebrity women look nice is VERY good makeup.

OP, the truth is, beauty takes work. Sure, there's natural beauty, but Kpop starts aren't in the 'natural beauty' arena AT ALL, and looking like these women takes hours of styling every day.

The truth is, if you want to feel more confident and beautiful, you have the power to do so. Beyond just changing your mentality, just basic things like taking care of your skin, hair, face - tiny things that don't take long. I'd invest in something like cetaphil, or some other gentle facial cleanser, then also a good facial moisturizer (I get mine from etsy), and some light BB cream to start. Your skin will appear much more smooth, even, and soft, and it's amazing how much this will boost your self-esteem. Makeup isn't just something shallow vapid women use or care about, it can be a tool for all women to feel more glamorous and beautiful.
