I love femmeslash, but MAYBE I can see why she banned it. You have to keep in mind that these are Disney characters. A lot of people are squicked out by seeing really cartoony characters in sexual situations because of the innocence factor, especially those from something like Disney Fairies.

And also, maybe she was afraid Disney might come after her legally? It happens rarely nowadays, but it still does. She might not want her comm to be the target of one of those parental watchdog groups.

Sure, I might be wrong about these things and she just might not like slash, but eh. I still find the reasoning above to be valid enough to ban fic of that nature.

This is all one big bullshit excuse. Damn near every time people use "innocent" to block queer expression, what they mean is "ew yucky gross."

And before the idea that children don't understand gayness, I knew I was queer as a child.

Fuck homophobic bullshit, and fuck people who make excuses for it.

It's not about children not understanding gayness. Although I'm sure you can agree that they shouldn't be exposed to explicit sexual content even if they find themselves knowing they're gay.

Even if the owner enjoys slash, the problem is with the others who hate it and then the community becomes a target for them. It's sad and disgusting, but that's how society is, unfortunately.

And when people rebel against this, they end up getting stomped on. I still remember the infamous strikethrough of 2007 and how several adult oriented communities for children related media got deleted due to the 'pedo police'.

Fair enough, but with this mod, that was not where she was coming from. The possibility of legal issues was never mentioned, though it should have been, as it would have been a handy neutral card to play that would have brought the argument down several notches.

I think there is a bit of explicit stuff for the fairies out there, but pretty much all the female-made femmeslash has been fluffy and tame to the point of not being blatantly romantic.

Also, not the last anon you responded to.

Children should not be on livejournal.

It's sad and disgusting, but that's how society is, unfortunately.

Some of us try to change this shit by fighting back instead of writing our hands and whinging about shit just being that way.

Unfortunately, parents let their kids be on LJ. I've seen it myself. As long as they have their parents' permission/supervision, I believe it is legal for them to be on LJ. Not entirely sure, though.

And I understand what you mean. I've fought the fair fight as well. Problem is, sweeping social change takes several years. Until then we have to deal with what is established, no matter how unfair.

The fuck I have to and the fuck I will.

You fags are so sensitive.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Are you a free agent butt smear, or are you on Tranz's side?

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Nah. This guy loving girl thinks you're a fucking asshole too.

As to the original secret. Well, personally, if someone bitches about me outside of a community I mod, I could absolutely care less. Doing it IN the com is a different matter but, hey, as long as drama doesn't happen there, say and do whatever you like, I say. Not that that tends to be an issue in my fandom, since we're pretty happy as a group and have tended to bond together in the height of being geeks and all.

Thanks for revealing your blatant homophobia. Looks like you're proud about being a complete douchebag. Congrats for that, I guess.

OP of the little debate

(Anonymous) 2011-05-07 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, just wanted to clarify that I did not write that homophobic slur... I suppose being in anonymous guise makes you more prone to having people frame you for things. -_-

(Anonymous) 2011-05-08 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha, thanks for proving our point, though I'm pretty sure most of us here are carpet-munching dykes (or some variation on that theme), not fags.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
protip: children under 13 aren't even allowed WITH parental permission anymore.

At least that was last I heard. Besides which, we have these magical things called 'age restrictions' on comms and sometimes individual posts. Parents who help their children lie about their age to ignore age restrictions strike me as several kinds of skeevy. Especially if after doing so, they complain about adult content they just granted their child access to.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-08 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yay, this tired old, "Gays are a threat to children!" rhetoric.

Yawn.

Oh yay, this line.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
This is classical homophobic bullshit. Unless people were actually posting explicit sex, but that's another matter entirely.

Straight people tend to think that just mentioning romance or a romantic relationship with a person of the same sex is "telling people about your sex life." It isn't, anymore than mentioning you're married to someone of the opposite sex is "telling people about your sex life".

Ugh.

[identity profile] mekosuchinae.livejournal.com 2011-05-07 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Because, you know, queerness is automatically sexually explicit.
