I loved Rose but grew to hate her with time as she changed from a well-rounded character to a 1-dimensional cardboard cut-out who's sole characteristic was wanting to be with the Doctor and damn the universe.

I hated River in s4 but grew to love her as she went from being a ~mysterious woman in love with the doctor~ and turned into a 3-dimensional well-rounded character with a complete story-line that worked with the audience rather than against it.

Do I detect a trend?

You're welcome to judge me for liking well written characters :D

This. Anon because when I said something similar non-anon, I got a couple of Rose stans being very concerned at how sexist I was for thinking Rose's character had degenerated.

It's true though. Want to know something else? I was dreading her appearance at the end of The End of Time but when it happened? It was wonderful. I fell in love all over again: she was all smiles and full of energy and bantering with her mum and ready to go out there and be all sorts of wonderful. "I bet you're going to have a great year" and then she had that smile...

It's a tragedy that all that charm was lost later on.

Normally, I don't mind Rose but her End of Time appearance was just scary. I thought she looked like she was literally about to bite the Doctor's head off when she smiled.
