I don't like the way Moffat writes women. There, I said it.

And no, I'm not accusing him of being misogynistic or what-have-you. And I don't want to start an RTD vs. Moffat war, which these discussions always seem to devolve into. I think that River could have been a character I enjoyed if she was handled differently. Moffat excels at scaring the living daylights out of me with his plots and I think he has written some of the most hilarious lines in Doctor Who, but he doesn't create characters I care about. They're just...not my cup of tea.

Rose Tyler is one of my favorite characters in fiction. She's seriously up there with Anna Karenina, Lyra Silvertongue, Lizzie Bennet, Maggie Tulliver, etc. in my personal pantheon of Fictional Women I Love. I get really sad when I see people bashing her in Fandom (I know, I know, cry moar). That is probably how River-fans feel, given how much bashing she gets in the fandom. It must be strange to love both women, because usually safe-places for loving one will often involve ragging on the other.

So...I get where you are coming from, comment-maker, but I respectfully disagree with your observation.

I feel almost angry that you'd put such an appalling character as Rose Tyler, one with no agency, ambition or thoughts of her own beyond being with a man whose subtle attempts to get her to lead her own life she's utterly oblivious to, in the same bracket at Lyra or Elizabeth Bennet.

If these are the things that make you angry, I could really care less.

Newsflash: characters resonate differently with different readers/watchers. May this be the biggest grievance in your life.
