I don't know...I was never completely convinced that Madoka liked Homura that way (although I could see it on Homura's end). I would've been happier to see something for Sayaka and Kyouko myself.

You mean, the Sayaka that decided to give her life for Kamijou without giving a single thought to Kyoko?

Hah, same! They were too precious, and as great as Episode 10 was, my heart really broke for Mami and Madoka.

When I got to the end, I had to stop and think "oh my God I am doin' it so wrong, Homura is the only one that even REMEMBERS Madoka but I'd STILL rather she end up with Mami".

Really? As far as "lesbian subtext" goes, Madoka isn't particularly special or even special at all. It has the typical girl-girl relationship most otaku-driven anime with a mainly female cast has. In fact, most of these shows, like Mai Hime or that trashy Qwaser show, actually take it further and have the kiss happen on the screen...

Sorta-agree. I ship them, but I'm not sure if their feelings are exactly romantic in the anime. Definitely very strong, whatever they are.

That would have been nice, and I would have liked to see it happen, but... Well, it's a seinen anime. A seinen anime that's surprisingly lacking in male gaze and therefore rather more female viewer-friendly than most, but it's still marketed primarily toward men. As it is, there are people arguing that that invalidates any subversive or empowering content it might have (I disagree, for the record). The sad fact is, to many people, if Madoka and Homura had kissed, it probably wouldn't have proved anything but that you can sell girls kissing to men. News at eleven, right?

Is it really all the subtext-y? I had a really, really close friendship like that with another girl when I was 13. People even joked about us being gay. If I wanted to compare, she was the Madoka to my Homura.

The stuff in the anime is very ripe for shipping but, canonically, I thought they were just two people who deeply cared about one another.

--Okay, well not 'subtexty', because it kinda is but that the OP thought they were a canon couple.

Same, but hey whatever. The series had quite a bit of subtext. Personally I would've preferred more for Kyoko/Sayaka, like some sign of Sayaka being able to consider it before she went off the deep end.

Also I still can't help but ship Mami/Madoka, either.

It would have been nice anyway if that had happened... but oh well. I think it's pretty cannon on Homura's side anyway. Madoka was kinda oblivious most of the time, and it probably varies on which time stream you're looking at her from, but for Homura... you don't just sell your soul and live through Groundhog Day From Hell for just ANYBODY.

Eternal Sailor Moon Madoka is probably closest to reciprocating Homura's sentiment.

I kind of thought it was more beautiful this way, leaving it a little vague.
