Yeah me too, in most post-apocalyptic scenarios - nuclear war, a pandemic, anything where society breaks down I'd rather have a quick death. Because as a tiny woman with no fighting skills or a killer instinct, survival would be hell, even if I found myself with a group of survivors, it would be hell - without the veneer of civilisation to keep me safe from other survivors.

I used to think this way too, anon. I'm not a fighter, and I just don't have the survival skills to survive outside a civilization with microwaves and working plumbing - I even fail at camping. Most of all, the whole idea of zombies terrify the ever living hell out of me. Dead things coming back to eat my brains? NO THANK YOU.

And then I remembered...I can outrun them! =D

Now it's not so bad. I just make sure to go for a run every day, to stay healthy. But it helps me delude myself into believing I could survive. They can't eat you if they can't catch you, and I've got a bike I can carry/hop on with little difficulty. XD

yeah, me too. it's long been my plan. i have no desire to live through the riot phase, much less the survival phase. why would i want to live in a world with no conveniences, with subsistence living, waiting for the 'we must do this to repopulate the earth' crowd to lose that last little bit of control? nope. have one last good time and say so long to the world. i find that people don't like it when i say that. they have grand plans for taking over pawn shops and wal-marts, but why? zombies gonna get you in the end, if the dude one aisle over doesn't.

Maybe it has something to do with having to rely on your wits, possibly others, and how everyone is basically brought down to the same level?

It would kind of end the point of money/trade if your just living day to day trying to survive, taking what you need. There's not much room for luxury or to be stingy when you've lost everything of material value over anyone else.

Just saying that for some, surviving seems like a better worthwhile goal than what assume is the status quo in reality (get a job, make money, get mortage, family, retire, general accumulation of wealth).

I am completely with you there.

Zombies, for whatever reason, get my pulse to skyrocket and I freak out at the very idea about there being a Zombie Apocalypse. Sure I laugh it off with others when people joke about it but I have to believe in the science on why zombies couldn't happen to calm back down.

When I get roped into wanting zombie films and get nightmares I have to visualize plans on how to fortify a room in the house to get back to sleep. The only reason I think about fortifying one room is so I can get my family safe long enough for us to wait out to see if zombies will be mowed down (I mean there is a chance of mowing down everything with bullets to keep zombies from spreading) or if its going to be the end times and if its the end times then I know where the painkillers and sleeping pills are and I plan to have a quiet exit from life.

I love to talk about zombies apocalypse even if I'm pretty sure I couldn't survive in that scenario. I think I'd kill myself too, a world full of zombies would be too depressing and disgusting.

My husband was completely freaked out when I expressed this opinion when we were watching The Walking Dead. I told him if our daughter were gone, I would make sure she wasnt coming back as a zombie and then taking myself out. I know I have no survival skills beyond sewing, which wouldnt help me super much in a zombie apocolypse, and I dont want to live in a constant state of fear.

*shrugs* I love stuff with zombies the same way I love anything with vampires in it.

I don't think any of them have a ice cube's chance in hell of actually happening. It's just another mode of fiction that I find interesting, and sometimes it can be kinda fun to get wrapped up in the fantasy with things like The Zombie Survival Guide or something.

tbh I'm pretty sure that believing, or knowing, that a zombie apocalypse wouldn't affect you emotionally or mentally might be worse. Knowing that a lot of people are either dead or essentially having lost all faculty of will, but you'll likely just blink at it and move on like some sociopath. I fall into that camp, and I worry more about what that says about me :(

I'll just go ahead and blame my dad for instilling all that stupid "BE AWARE THE apocalypse is coming/end is nigh/bullshit" junk since I was a child to the point where I actually have plans for all that including a zombie apocalypse. SO STUPID. I am basically promising to survive the hell out of anything as a general "fuck you" to my dad. VERY STUPID. /smallrant
