Wait, I remember fandom before the internet (or even the online bulletin boards that proceeded it!) and Aspergers was never mentioned. It wasn't that well known outside of psychiatric circles until much later.

And there were lots of fat people back then! And people who could barely look you in the eye because the local con was about the only reason they would leave their house! And there was plenty of DRAMA, too!

Honestly, things haven't changed that much. Except that now you can enjoy your squee with people on other continents! And that's kinda cool.

In short, I don't think you really know what you're talking about.
