Definitely not the weird one.

To be honest, when people tell me they have independent characters living in their head and talking to them, and are serious about it, I want to back away slowly. There's a big difference between feeling that a character or plot "speaks" to you and "wants" to be written or even imagining such a thing, and meaning that in the literal sense.

'Cause people in your head talking to you? Yeah, there's medication for that.

Don't wait for inspiration to strike if you want to write. Just write. Inspiration comes with practice, and with getting out into the world and filling your head with sights and sounds and experiences for your imagination to work on.

Sometimes it's not that easy. Writer's block and all that, and "just work through it" isn't always the answer no matter how hard one tries to do just that.

Actually, it really is. OSC told me once that writer's block means that you wrote something into the story that didn't belong there, and the only way to get around it is to fix it; he certainly had a point. But it could also mean that the imagination hasn't been fed enough and requires new experiences, reading, new thoughts. Or it could just be that the brain's gotten lazy and needs to be made to exercise.

I also guess it depends on if you write simply for fun or not. But just waiting for inspiration to strike is a good way to get out of practice.

Go ahead. I didn't make it, but no one seems quite sure where it came from. So go ahead and gank, and if you ever figure out who made it, please let me know so I can credit as well. :)

I once had a reviewer asking me to put muse conversations in my fics because "that way you're letting the characters have a say in it". If it's possible to nod, smile and back away slowly over the Internet, I did.
