i'm the opposite. i love f!hawke and dislike the prevalence of m!hawke in fanwork (especially with fenris. imo he gets reduced to that 'shorter, smaller and therefore more vulnerable uke' stereotype too much) so i more or less read f!hawke fic exclusively.

But that's what he was in the game?

Stereotypes can be done well and fleshed out to be sympathetic and realistic, which Fenris was. And obvs a vulnerable uke or whatever wasn't all he was. But if you're actually saying he's not vulnerable and that he's totally dominant or sth... what game did you even play? What the hell?

not really. i suppose some might take him to be that way and that explains this portrayal but he wasn't.

i didn't say he's dominant. i didn't say he's not vulnerable. i'm just saying that i hate when he's basically reduced to that 'bottom' stereotype. in yaoi fanwork, the characters are frequently put into these roles, with one of them being the girly, weak, smaller, shorter, meek, submissive one etc. you know this. and i just hate that fenris gets this treatment all the time. at least when drawn or written with f!hawke, he seems a little more assertive? and doesn't need the big strong manly dudebro hawke to save him.
