If you -know- the other person doesn't feel that way, then no, you probably shouldn't tell them unless you want them to feel uncomfortable.

I had a friend who decided she was in love with me, which was weird as hell for me because I had a bf and she knew I was happy with him. 6 months later she was over her crush and moved on to someone else. We're still friends, but I can't help think that it was all kind of pointless drama...

If said person can get over it without telling someone, then maybe you're right. But I've seen my fair share of drama happen because someone fell in love with someone they KNEW they couldn't have and kept it bottled up until it all exploded and not only were relationships with the crusher and crushee involved destroyed, but other relationships were taken out in the wake.

Point is, feelings can be messy and complicated sometimes and yes they can ruin friendships, but sometimes a confession might be a step for someone to move on. But if they don't say anything it might just escalate later on.

Plus some people do end up with people who are otherwise involved, I personally don't appreciate that sort of thing leading to cheating but sometimes you really don't belong with your current bf/gf and need to break up with them and be with someone else. That someone else could be your friend, it's not unheard of.
