Yes, go you. Being an ignorant fuck is all the rage these days.

Yes, yes, because not being SUPER SERIOUS and angry is ignorance. HUZZAH! ♥

I have "Double Rainbow" stuck in my head. It makes this thread so fun... "SO INTENSE! TOO MUCH! OH MY GOD, IT'S A FULL ARK! I CAN'T EVEN CAPTURE IT ON MY CAMERA!"

I'll politely ask you to open your metaphorical ears and listen to what we have to say.

Take it from me, as a member of the gay community myself. I'm not berating you for having fun, I'm only irritated by the hurtful stereotypes your fanmix and your general attitude toward homosexuality perpetuate. Not all of us are "yay rainbows and what what in my butt" types obsessed with sex and flamboyancy, some of us are, in fact, annoyed by the assumption that all gay men act like the stereotype. I understand that wasn't your intention with your fanmix, but, like it or not, your fanmix sends the message that Gay Shepard is a stereotypical gay man.

Now please consider what we have to face every day. The jokes demeaning us as sluts, the assumption that all of us are "screaming queens." There are gay men like that, but when one extreme is applied to us all with the intent to diminish us, that's when it becomes offense. And when faced with another, well-meaning as it might be, example of that stereotype, you'll have to see why some people would be offended.

Ignoring that, not "not being super serious and angry," is ignorance. Thank you.

My mix is about a gay Shepard who found out that he could be gay in ME3, and decided to totally rock out to it in a "screaming queen" fashion. I understand that some people would look at him and see a stereotype, but I, personally, wouldn't crash his party. I understand that some people view it as the perpetuation of a stereotype, but that's not how I see it at all. I see it as empowering to take something campy or ridiculous and make it your own.

And, again, if Decuvieri was so wildly offended, the issue could have been taken to me directly and expressed thoughtfully, rationally, and I might have removed the mix or made an addendum or even worked with Decuvieri to make a completely new, "ideal" fanmix that celebrated gay Shepard in a way that more evenly represented the community. But it wasn't. It was tossed in my face on a completely different community on a completely different topic, and I was called "obnoxious" for doing nothing more than posting my Shepards.

I know I thought about contacting you about that mix, because it sure as fuck offended me.

Problem is, you've proven to be oblivious to the thoughts and feelings of others. Example, the M!Shepard/F!Shepard post back at masseffect comm. Yes, you talk back, but you just don't seem to understand anything said by the other party. You just pick out buzz words and act wounded or get all "I DON'T GIVE A FUCK, WOO!"

Shit, look at how you're acting right now. You're ignoring what c_saber is saying. Instead you're trying to explain gay empowerment to him. He knows about more gay empowerment than you ever will.

[identity profile] jessieheart.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
You know, maybe you should have contacted me. I can be downright reasonable, given the chance.

And I don't agree that I was ignoring c_saber or trying to tell him how to feel empowered. I merely wished to impress that my mix can be viewed as empowering, but I recognize that it also can be viewed as offensive. My inability to completely agree with your side of the argument does not mean that I don't understand it. I simply disagree.

EDIT: Additionally, I am sorry that you were offended by my fanmix. It was not my intent to offend, it was my intent to empower. I stand by my song selections (and I stand by the artists who created them, because I do not think that they meant to offend anyone, either) but I do regret that it upset some people.

In that argument, both sides were ignoring the mass of what was said. JessieHeart, however, was trying to keep track of probably a dozen other people's counter-arguments, and many of them were arguing extreme opposite ends of the spectrum, so of course it looked like she was misinterpreting. And she did apologize within that forum for some of her more frustratedly tackles replies. But it seems unfair of you to hold something against someone without at least trying to talk to them about it. :/

BTW, I love your icon. Were you the one who requested Joker/M!Shep from Aimo? I always wanted to commission her, but she's probably flooded with requests.

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I personally can understand where this is coming from, and as has been said, addressing the issue at the source is a legitimate action. But if you have a problem, say so rationally as you have here, rather than being immature and bringing it up a week later somewhere else like a passive aggressive teenage girl - which is how this thread began here.

At the same time, if the LGBQT community begins attacking its allies for simply being able to joke about a single event, or namecalling fans of halo assuming they're all teenieboppers, you're gonna lose a big chunk of your support. My own investment in the community as a whole is my business, but I'll tell you now that I do have a personal investment in these issues, and I do mean well, as long as the people I am talking to can be adults, much like you are here.

Haha forget the stick up the ass haters, I laughed hard.
