It's a fucking leotard. How many female gymnasts do you see wearing pants?

Also, maybe you should go back and read some old DC comics and see how many male superheroes wore pants. They were all basically wearing variants of wrestling or bodybuilder uniforms.

Besides, if I had superpowers, I wouldn't wear pants. Certainly not skintight ones.

Not that I necessarily disagree with you (or agree entirely with OP) but if you are going to bring up the old school I have to say this; the reason Wonder Woman was put in skin tight clothing is entirely different then the reason male superheros were put in skin tight clothing.

I know it seems comparable but there is a psychology behind it that makes it really not.

Most likely it was so that you could see their muscles better. But when women show off their musculature, that's OMG SCANDALOUS.

To be fair... Some of the time Most of the time, no muscle is actually defined on female bodies*, unlike with males. :3

Actually, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but most (male?) superhero costumes, and I'm thinking Superman specifically, were based on the old circus "strongman" trope, as in a huge guy at a circus who could lift absurd amounts of weight. The costumes are very reminiscent of the types of spandexy kind of things they would wear, both for more mobility and eyecandy.

Yup. The idea was that they were athletic and doing absurd flips and such, so they wore the sorts of things that acrobats and strongmen would wear at the time. Why they're still wearing them now is a little unclear, but that's where the generic superhero costume comes from. It's even semi-referenced in Spider-Man's origin story - that was originally a wrestling costume, complete with luchador mask.

Wonder Woman's first outfit was hardly that revealing. She was wearing shorts (http://www.uky.edu/Projects/Chemcomics/assets/images/ww_21_cov.jpg), for one thing.

Really, she's conservative compared to the pop stars that some people who consider themselves to be feminists on F!S consider paragons of female empowerment (not that I think someone can't be feminist if they wear skimpy clothing or listen to pop musicians who wear skimpy clothing -- quite the opposite, really)
