I don't care if it fits comic book canon but I do find it a bit ridiculous that they can't follow the movie canon they've already established. That said I made a conscious choice to ignore that while watching the movie and it helped.

Well now, Emma did mysteriously grow younger for the Wolverine movie. Which is par for the course on 616!Emma's age...

That is the one thing that has been bugging me about the movie canons. I don't know why it bothers me so much, but seeing teen Emma in Wolverine and then adult Emma in First Class = RAGE! I'm all for a reboot after the failboat of X3 but it seems like they did Emma in First Class because someone REALLY wanted to put January Jones in an unflattering bikini.

I'm okay with ignoring X3 and Wolverine: Origins because oh god. Oh god, why. But that could be because I'm obviously too invested in Deadpool on the last one.

Those movies are the equivalent of Chuck Austen's run in the comics. Better to pretend they never existed and call it a day -_-;;

The only reason I didn't scream at the screen when they called Weapon XI Deadpool at the end of that "movie" was because it's the closest movie theater to me and I don't want to be banned. Then I just went into my "Ryan Reynolds' Abs" zen place until I went home.

Mmmm. Abs and arms of wonder.

It was sad when I preferred the leaked version with half the special effects missing...

I think if anything is trying to remain canon to X3 or Wolverine then they're going to have a very difficult time. those movies were a clusterfuck of nonsense.

Thank you. I've been in need of good X-Men icons for a while now.

There was an interview where they said that the only movies they were taking as canon were the ones that Singer worked on. I think, not positive, that means only the first two. Definitely not X3 or Wolverine. Canon compliant still isn't perfect, but it's better imo if you look at it that way.

But doesn't Shaw have a cameo in X2, 40 years after his "death"?

They really ought to just declare First Class a reboot and leave it at that.

Shaw is in X2? I don't remember that, I also haven't seen the movie in forever, so that makes the canon troublesome again. As I said above, it makes movie-canon compliance somewhat better, for me, not perfect by any stretch.

There's a shot on a TV of Hank and Shaw debating mutant rights or something... I think it breaks canon twice because Hank is not blue in it, either. But if you treat it like an easter egg I guess it's okay??

Huh, I'll have to watch X2 again now. I love having an excuse to re-watch my X-Men movies. Not that I really need one. Is it bad that I'll be more upset if they didn't make Hank blue in that clip than with most of the canon fails that all of the movies have had?

Why yes I am too concerned about X-Men. Regardless I am currently re-watching X2 and there is a scene where McCoy (who frustratingly is not blue) is talking to someone named Shaw, but the Shaw in question is arguing for stronger Mutant registration, which leads me to believe that it is just a coincidence in names not actually Shaw from 1st Class. But who knows, as pointed out below it is Marvel so death is hardly the final anything.

The problem is, First Class still doesn't really work. According to X-Men and X2, Charles and Erik met when they were 17, were friends for years, started the school together, and Erik helped build Cerebro. ...yeah.

True, I guess in my head-canon I see them continuing to be at odds with one another and work together at different intervals as they each grow into their own. I also don't recall an age being defined in the movies, but I guess I missed it. So as for the other areas I guess I haven't ruled out the idea that they designed Cerebro during one of their chess games, or even in the future. Or that they find students together. I don't see Erik teaching on his own but I don't see him leaving mutants to fend for/train themselves either. Sorry, I've spent too many years obsessing of X-Men and despite their flaws I do love the movie-verse and the new facets it brings to my beloved characters.
