Totally agree.

I've seen a few people bitching about the ending with how Charles becomes paralyzed and complaining and complaining about how it's not like the original story. And I was re-reading some Ultimate X-Men today and omg... they rebooted the story and Charles was paralyzed by something different than the original story. Wanting the movies to follow one set canon in relation to the comics is just silly.

Basically, this. I've never read the comics (and from what I understand they are pretty convoluted, so maybe that's not a bad thing) but I always imagine the movies as yet another AU. And lord knows that Marvels loves AUs.

The comics can seem pretty damn daunting for someone who hasn't followed them for years upon years, yeah. But I always consider them worth a look at least!

Even if they make you rage so damn much. It is just as much a comic book fan thing to whine about the changes to canon, be it from retcons or stupid crossover events or whatever else they decide to throw at people THIS year... as it is to whine about how something is popular and now it sucks.

Like this movie.

...tl;dr, me.

That's it exactly - I'm scared to get into the X-Men. Not necessarily Mavel, as I've read about five Deadpool comics (seriously love the guy, and by extension your username and pic)and some Cable and Deadpool.

I've just heard that X-Men isn't worth the hassle.

I hear you on that, yeah. It's hard to try getting into something that has run for decades now.

To be honest? I find that a site like scans_daily (in it's newest incarnation, siiiiigh) is the best to see if you even want to bother. I tend to stick to the streamlined series and work from there.

It's how I got into Deadpool in the first place.

Wait, it's still running in a new incarnation? Where?

Over on dreamwidth (http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/)!

It was on insanejournal for a little while before going there. Not as active as the LJ version, but hopefully in time it will be.

It's just that after a while the comics that go on for a long time like X-Men, Avengers, Spiderman. They get sort of rebooted for a "fresh" take on the story. Usually with new writers and new artists and as a person who loves X-Men comics I enjoy the roboots or new verses. and don't really find them upsetting. And I just see the movies as a different verse.

If you're upset with new angles on familiar characters than they can be frustrating or convoluted. But I find it's not very difficult to keep the separate verses separate and enjoy them for what they bring to the world of X-Men. Giving the comics a go is very rewarding, imo.

The backstory I'm familiar with in the comics is that X becomes paralyzed due to the Juggernut's doing (who is his brother). I see the movies as their own universe, and I find the movie's idea better (at least, more heart breaking).

The one a lot of people are referencing which as I understand it is the original story, is that Charles was paralyzed by some alien. I haven't read the those comics in a long time so I can't remember specifics.

But the Ultimate verse which I've just read it was Magneto who did it. Not like in the movie but during an argument they had he sent a metal rod through Charles' back. So *shrug* Yeah, I'm with you and just see the movie as it's own verse on the characters.
