It does royally suck that an established character has a better chance of being canon hooked up with an opposite sex character after having only been seen standing in the same room together than they would being canon hooked up with someone of the same sex they had lots of face and character time with.

But.

I'd rather have openly queer characters, period. As in, no guessing games when they might have had chemistry with other characters. Just say it: gay/bi/pan/trans? That can be a tricky thing to express when relationships aren't going on, but a mention of past girlfriends or a comment on a hot dude actor might be all that it takes to erase the assumption that a particular cast member is default straight.

Anyhoo, you're not delusional. Remus/Sirius didn't happen, but (at least one-sided) Dumbledore/Grindelwald did! Both had slashers before proven or disproven, people saying it could/couldn't be canon, and people saying it couldn't happen in a kid's series.
