This bothers me because you say your friend is going through sexual reassignment surgery, but earlier say he is lying about his gender online because men get more readers than women. If he is going through reassignment surgery, then he's not lying about his gender online, just sayin.

No, they're saying that this person was lying about their gender online BEFORE they identified as trans. At that time, if the OP is to be believed, they WERE lying about their gender. Regardless of whether or not they are transsexual now, they weren't at the time -- or they weren't out about it, anyway -- and therefore were lying.

This bothers me because you seem more concerned with pedantry than with the OP's main point. The BNF was a douche canoe to the OP, regardless of whether or not he was lying about his gender online. I agree that OP probably could have made a stronger argument for the BNF's douchiness by not mentioning that bit, since the other examples the OP provides are more than adequate in pointing out the BNF's jerkiness and it kind of makes the OP sound not as well versed in transgenderism as some people would like. But I mean, dude. BNF was an asshole who used his transgender status as an excuse for past malicious behavior, and that isn't right. What he should have offered the OP was a genuine apology, not some half-assed 'oh, I was just acting out' remark.
