I'm sorry, OP :(
If you do want to lose weight, make sure to do it in a healthy way. Diets don't work, but a healthy diet does. Limit sugar (that's the number 1 thing that keeps weight on for my family). Drink plenty of water and get lots of exercise!
I hope you feel better!

This. So many people are caught up in "fad diets" (don't get me started on Taco Bell's idiotic drive thru diet), that it's ridiculous. It's actually a lot easier to just eat a relatively balanced diet and get some exercise in.

to OP: One simple way to get started is just to stop drinking soda. If you usually drink one 12 ounce can of soda a day and quit doing so, then you save yourself about 4,200 calories a month (and 50,400 a year. Quite a bit!). When I quit drinking soda, I thought it would be difficult but it was a lot easier than I anticipated. I just drink a lot of water (I love adding those crystal light flavor packets, though)

Totally agreed... HUGE amounts of calories come from drinks filled with sugar :/

and oh my god I just looked up the Taco Bell "diet".. that's so ridiculous.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah and when read about the woman who his the mascot for the diet, you find out that she lost 54 pounds in two years. That's like losing a little over two pounds a month which is... really not incredible or unprecedented at all. She also had to reduce her daily caloric intake by 500 calories to do so. So it's not like she got that way solely by eating Taco Bell.

*and when you read about the woman who is the mascot for the diet

It sounds like the debacle for Jared at Subway a few years back. Total bullshit :/

DA

Does Crystal Light have aspartame in it? I know it's hellishly hard to track down in my area, and while it would be perfect for me, I don't want to go to the effort just to find out that I can't drink it.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
I just checked the back of a crystal light package, and it does have aspartame in it, sorry :(

But I did some googling and the crystal light company has another drink mix called "pure fitness" that is aspartame free (I've tried it before and like it. I just wasn't aware that it was aspartame free)

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
I just checked another one of my drink mix boxes, and I have one that is the Great Value off-brand that is made with Stevia extract and has no aspartame. The name brand is called Stevita

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I'll look into them, see if I can get hold of them.

I love flavoured waters, but buying the premixed ones keeps me penniless.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
No problem! I hope you can find them easily!

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
What's the problem with aspartame?

[identity profile] time-ambassador.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe they're allergic to it? Also it's fucking gross. D:

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
Some people have intolerance
Some people just don't consume it cause the jury's not out on it being Cancer-inducing
Some diets specifically rule it out
etc, etc

Whatever works to motivate you, OP, is a good thing. Diet healthily, keep at it, and wear that shirt with pride.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Good luck, OP.

May I suggest getting other T-shirts, in 1x and 2x? This worked for a friend of mine; she had a "goal shirt" in each size, down to her final goal shirt.

It seemed to keep her going when she hit plateaus...

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
This is a good idea, actually. If the goal shirt (or dress or whatever) is multiple sizes away, the whole thing can frequently backfire on a person. If the goal shirt starts to feel unattainable, it can turn into a horrible vicious cycle.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I hope you find a way to motivate yourself, OP. I know how hard it is. But in the end, I hope you can feel happy with your body no matter how it is, just make sure you're not ruining your health. I tend to wear tight tees, even though I'm overweight, because you know - I'm not going to be thing anyway, but wearing a tent isn't going to change that.

If I can give any advice: Do it for yourself, not others.
Do it because you'll feel better, because you'll be able to move, because your knees will be thankful - but not to look like a celebrity. Because no-one looks that way, not even the celebs (because they're photo shopped to death).

I managed to lose quite a lot with a low carb diet because it actually made me feel better and I wasn't hungry. But your body might be different and might need another approach.

Good luck, in any case!

Losing weight is hard but it's doable. I decided to lose weight back at the very end of February and so far I've lost 30 pounds which another say 30-40 to lose. The best way to make sure you stick to it is to start by making small changes at first and do it the healthy way. Do your research about nutrition and exercise - knowledge is your best friend, especially considering how many people THINK they know about good nutrition and exercise and then will tell you all the wrong things to do which will actually hurt rather than help.

As someone whose been doing this and is continuing, I'm here if you ever want to talk or need advice, feel free to PM me :) I also have a weight loss blog if you're interested at all: http://excitedtobefit.tumblr.com/

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Good luck, OP!
The first step was deciding to make a change. Now you just have to commit to it ^__^

And if you can find the courage to tell your friends that you want to lose weight, maybe they can help you out. Support systems are important!

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
That's a great ambition and I really hope you achieve what you have wished for. XX :)

[identity profile] formula-410.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck, OP! I might consider talking to your friends about this, though.. they'd probably be willing to help you reach your goal. I know that for me, very little motivates me to get up and do things, but having a workout buddy or a casual sports team (volleyball and kickball for me) makes it much more fun.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
i bought a bikini to help with motivation. i've gained so much weight this past year and feel awful. good luck op
