When it comes to anime art, I believe the Japanese (due to culture and communication) have more of a slight advantage over Western anime artists. I think there is a tendency in Western art to pick and choose styles from anime and create it from there. However, there are exceptions to these generalizations. And I don't find it to be a huge difference.

Honestly though, I value both Japanese and Western art. It's insulting to think that there are more and "better" anime artists in Japan. DA is not anime centered like pixiv is. So it's not a good comparison, at all. Hell, DA is a fucking cesspit if you ask anyone who takes art seriously. And I've seen some pretty crappy art on pixiv, so ymmv there as well.

Also, you have to keep in mind fandom has a very skewed and limited perspective when it comes to "good" art. But as a fellow artist to you OP, you shouldn't be drawing for popularity in fandom. You should be doing it for your own enjoyment. You'll find it more rewarding, imo.
