Disagree to a point
(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)While not all actors create a best friends facade for promotional work, a lot of them do. "X is the best friend I ever had, Y is such a great actor, we will never be separated". This is easy to slash for exactly the same reason as regular canon. Because that sort of interaction contains similar homoerotic elements even though not intentionally so. (Bromance is homoeroticism, no way to dice it or slice it otherwise. And bromance is the favorite male-male actor angle to cultivate during promotion when there are two or more de-facto leads.)
While the gay percentage is probably far beyond the average mean in drama schools and clubs that are the foundation of today's acting elite (the ones that get to play leads in movies and tv), I still believe that only the automatic assumption of your RPF ship is canon is the part that is taking it too far. Not the fic writing, not the wishing for it.
