27 Dresses is pure delight, but I think my favorite chick flick is My Big Fat Greek Wedding! Any other fans out there!?

i think too many romcoms actually skimp on the comedy. MBFGW is perfect. :]

Aww yeah MBFGW was so awesome and her family was hilarious. <33 I love big families in my wedding movies. XD (My favourite wedding movie is Monsoon Wedding but that that doesn't really qualify as a rom-com, does it?)

I actually kind of liked While You Were Sleeping but mostly because my grandma liked it and I have a good memory of watching it with her

But on the whole I dislike romcoms

Aw. I think WYWS is the first thing I ever noticed Bill Pullman in.

WYWS is good because it's about more than the woman falling in love with a dude, it's about her falling in love with his family (metaphorically speaking) as well. And it's about how preconceptions can lead to all sorts of unpleasant things.

I love that movie, and now that you mention it, I may watch it right now:)

I also really like Center Stage.

I normally hate romcoms but I love 27 Dresses with absolutely no shame in my heart. It helps that I'm a tiny bit of a costume nerd and have a huge crush on James Marsden, though.

yessss the dresses are so pretty and AHHH JAMES MARSDEN. he is one of the most attractive men currently living in my opinion. i watched enchanted just for him (and amy adams's costumes... haha). and his character in 27 dresses was so adorable... BENNY AND THE JETS. MY CREYS.

I agree with the OP 99.5% of the time: I dislike most romantic comedies targeted at females and with quite a few of them I feel offended over their marketing to my demographic. But my big honking exception has to be Bridget Jones's Diary. That movie was fantastic.

Bridget Jones, yesssss. Love that movie so hard.

I just re-watched Win A Day With Tad Hamilton with my little sisters earlier today. So cute! Topher Grace is adorable.

my mom gave me so much flak for loving that movie as much as i do, but i still think the line about her smiles is the best thing i've ever heard

I actually don't mind rom coms, I don't like most of them, but I think they're mostly harmless.
My favorites are Sweet Home Alabama, Love and Other Disasters, Sliding Doors and Down with Love

Even though I agree with the OP, I do have a few that I love.

Pride and Prejudice (BBC) of course.

Yesss. I love that one. And Jennifer's other one, Catch and Release.

That movie makes me cry like a little girl, omg.

Don't like most chick flicks but I loved The Proposal.

The Proposal was a huge surprise to me; I went into the theater expecting to dislike it (I saw it free at my university so it wasn't any financial loss) and ended up loving it. A lot.

Does Secretary count as a rom-com? 8D

Mostly though I like my romance in period costume. Jane Austen stuff like Sense & Sensibility and Emma. Princess Bride too!

My Best Friend's Wedding and The Wedding Singer has some sing-along parts! Dionne Warwick! 80's music!

If (500) Days of Summer counts as a romcom then it's definitely my favorite. I love the way they told the story, plusss it doesn't hurt that I have a girlcrush on Zooey Deschanel and that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is amazingly amazing.

I also adore Notting Hill with a passion. And anything Jane Austen, because that woman was a genius. Though with Pride and Prejudice I prefer the 2005 Keira Knightley version.

For loving my nerdy fanodm things, I actually love Romcoms and chick flicks when done RIGHT. GOOD Romcoms/chick flicks are fantastic.

if (500) days of summer is a romcom, then that makes it my favorite romcom

i don't really think of it as one though... mostly because it's not very romantic

or maybe i just like it too much to call it a romcom lol
