Hey, let's define every group by its extremists, see where that takes us. Sounds like fun.

Of course I know it's a leather jacket, you don't have to be condescending. I'm only lamenting that I'm unable to find a pleather version, or at least a non-leather jacket that's similar to it. I just really like the style.

Buy it second hand? I'm not a vegetarian and I have no problem with leather, but some veggies I know will wear second hand leather products on the grounds that their money isn't going to the leather-producing industry. Though if you're squicked out by wearing leather you might be stuck.

... Okay, that line of reasoning just makes no sense to me. Do those people think that benefiting from an industry they consider harmful/bad is fine, so long as their money doesn't go to the people whose work they're enjoying?

I think the person in question might have been referring to hand-me-down clothes, in which case they weren't spending money on it at all. I don't remember exactly what their reasoning was, though.

Maybe that the animal is dead anyway, and since they aren't buying the item from a shelf another one isn't going to be made to replace it?

I always thought that the jacket was supposed to be pleather anyway, since it's so shiny. Even comparing the two jackets in the secret there's a difference. Perhaps you could just look for the material you want, then commission a dressmaker to run the jacket up for you?

If you want it that badly (and can scrape up the funds) you could probably get one custom-made out of pleather, though odds are it probably won't look quite right in a synthetic material.

It'll cost you but you could probably find someone willing to make it custom out of the materials you want.

Find a commissioner who will custom-make a non-leather one for you.

I could totally bring it in around the same price, I bet, if you gave me enough reference pics. Pleather's not cheap, believe it or not, sometimes it can be more expensive than a hide. But construction-wise it's not ridiculously complex.

Maybe look up people who can make clothes and see if someone will make it for you? It'll probably be kind of expensive, but if you want it that much...

I love how my automatic response to this secret is "JESUS, THAT'S A LOTTA MONEY," and that commissioning someone to make it would probably be about half the price.

LOL, no it wouldn't. Not even close. Hell, a decent hide of that material ALONE would probably be about half that price, and that's if you find a good deal and before factoring in labor.
