"The friends you were with wanted to go shopping"? seriously? I hate to say it but your friends suck.Eespecially if this with on for two-and-a-half-fucking-hours. More so, if she was holding an infant there might have been serious danger to the child (an adult will survive a slap given in anger, a baby might very well not).

Honestly, yes, you should have tried intervening, either yourself of by telling someone/calling the cops.

Also, you need better friends. Seriously.

Because walking up to a dangerous man and telling him off is such a great idea?

Or moving off to call the police. What if the guy had seen the OP with a phone and turned on him/her?

There's a reason people are anxious about doing anything in these situations. I'd be afraid to move just in case the guy turned on me.

And yet the OP apparently felt safe enough to remain in a mostly deserted area watching a crazy rapist rant at his victim for two and a half hours? Sorry, I smell bullshit. If the secret isn't fake (though I'm pretty sure it is), the OP is a poor excuse for a human being.

Or they're one of those people who exaggerates their stories... "Dude, the fish was THIS big!" but it really was only this big.

There probably was a couple fighting on the street. There probably was a baby. The guy might have a bad temper and said things in anger. The woman was probably hurt. I doubt it went on for 2 hours. I doubt it was as extreme as OP said it was. And OP's friends probably saw it as just a couple having a fight that was none of their business and told the OP to chill and enjoy their vacation. OP may also be from a smaller town or city and not used to people airing out their dirty laundry on the street.

Telling him off: That depends on the situation. If you're in a group of say 4-5 people, yes, sometimes you CAN come across intimidating enough to tell someone off. But I can understand you wouldn't do that.

However: If they spent 2,5 hours going IN and OUT of shops, surely they could have gone into a shop, found a secluded place, and called the cops. Or told a shop owner or security guard (as many shops do have those). C'mon, who are you kidding? Sounds from the story he wasn't even paying attention to them.

Yeah. Sounds like the secret's a fake, TBH, because I can't imagine why anybody would stand there and watch a crazy man confess to multiple crimes for 2.5 hours and not fucking do something. Even if that something was getting the hell out of there. Why the hell would you stick around and watch that?
