dean wouldn't care, he hates women that won't fuck him

(Anonymous) 2011-08-01 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this. I'm automatically wary of anyone who idolizes such a misogynistic prick.

Secret's probably fake, because who the fuck would stand there and watch a couple argue for two and a half hours. But in case it's not? OP, you are a disgusting individual. Not only are you too much of a chickenshit to do the right thing, but your first concern is what a fictional character's opinion of you would be. Jesus fucking Christ.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-01 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly you have never watched the show if you genuinely believe Dean wouldn't save a woman (or anyone, for that matter) who is in danger.

He might be a sexist douche sometimes, but his heart's in the right place when it comes to saving people's lives.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-01 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
He would only save her if she was hot and there's a chance it would get him laid at some point. Otherwise, he wouldn't be bothered.

[identity profile] atalantapendrag.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Aaaaaand this would be the sort of secret a thoughtful person would put a trigger warning on.

[identity profile] goobbledigook.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised you guys are bothering to read that tiny text. So tenacious.

[identity profile] danaphilip.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
And this would be why people make fun of and generally hate New Yorkers and tourists.

And I am really hoping is fake.

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I am hoping it's fake too. Unfortunately I can imagine it happening, easily... but not so much someone making it into a Fandom Secret.

[identity profile] danaphilip.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just so stereotypical. I thought New York had changed.

Although I'd understand if tourists hadn't.

Of course in that same vein, tourists have always delighted in making up fake, slanderous stories about the places they visit for attention or to say, "Yeah, it really is as bad as everyone says it is."

Which is a sort of attitude not even remotely new for...

the entire history of man.

The whole thing read as incredibly fake to me. I mean, what were any of you doing that kept you stationary, outside on a "mostly deserted" street for "more than two and a half hours" besides watching this fighting couple? Quiet sidewalk cafe in hell's kitchen, I guess? Are you sure this wasn't some kind of performance art?

Even if it's not fake, OP, interrupting a fighting couple to tell them what you (a stranger) think of their relationship is almost never a good idea, and calling the police to report someone yelling at someone else isn't going to do much good either. Even if the man admitted to abusing his gf, there's not a lot you can do for a battered woman who doesn't want to leave except offer support and resources (neither of which you, as a complete stranger could do anyway).

[identity profile] subarashiine.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I hope it's fake, but I promise you that this scene could happen in any city, in any country. It's not just NYC :/

[identity profile] danaphilip.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I'm sure, it's just a very popular stereotype of NYC...

since the 1920s.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"The friends you were with wanted to go shopping"? seriously? I hate to say it but your friends suck.Eespecially if this with on for two-and-a-half-fucking-hours. More so, if she was holding an infant there might have been serious danger to the child (an adult will survive a slap given in anger, a baby might very well not).

Honestly, yes, you should have tried intervening, either yourself of by telling someone/calling the cops.

Also, you need better friends. Seriously.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-01 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, you're not apologizing for this rapist. There might be a shred of decency in you yet!

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, dear - I wouldn't get my hopes up. After all, I so easily disappoint people. Wouldn't want your feeling hurt, or anything.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-01 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Because walking up to a dangerous man and telling him off is such a great idea?

Or moving off to call the police. What if the guy had seen the OP with a phone and turned on him/her?

There's a reason people are anxious about doing anything in these situations. I'd be afraid to move just in case the guy turned on me.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-01 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
And yet the OP apparently felt safe enough to remain in a mostly deserted area watching a crazy rapist rant at his victim for two and a half hours? Sorry, I smell bullshit. If the secret isn't fake (though I'm pretty sure it is), the OP is a poor excuse for a human being.

Telling him off: That depends on the situation. If you're in a group of say 4-5 people, yes, sometimes you CAN come across intimidating enough to tell someone off. But I can understand you wouldn't do that.

However: If they spent 2,5 hours going IN and OUT of shops, surely they could have gone into a shop, found a secluded place, and called the cops. Or told a shop owner or security guard (as many shops do have those). C'mon, who are you kidding? Sounds from the story he wasn't even paying attention to them.

Get better friends. I don't approve how you acted in that situation but accept it as something you can't change anymore and let it be a lesson for the future. The next time something like this happens, I hope you won't let yourself be pulled back from doing what is right.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
If this actually happened it is pretty fucking stupid that your first thought is about how disgusted fictional characters would be with you. First step to improving your intelligence: actually call the cops god forbid there's a next time. Second, get better friends. JFC.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I don't care where people find the strength to make a morally right choice as long as they do them.

[identity profile] later-tuesday.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a fairly common reaction, actually. It sucks, but most people, even those who will bitch and tell you what a terrible person you are, wouldn't want to get involved if they were the ones there at the time.

Use this to make sure you do call next time someone needs help.

[identity profile] shichiloaf.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
This, forever. People need to get off of those high horses.

Also, fuck the assholes in this thread getting on your case for the fictional character thing. Like none of them have ever looked up to a character before, jfc.
