I think this song kind of transcends religion. The message is universal--we are all part of something bigger than ourselves, and each person is worth something. That's a beautiful message, no matter where you come from or what you believe. <3

I love the 'lai-la-lai' chanting in this song, I wish I could have a track of just that part, haha.

That said, you don't have to be religious to be spiritual or to be moved by things that religion has inspired. I am in no way religious, but I still find devotion greatly admirable, love the architecture of churches and other religious sites, and am really floored by the acts of some great people of religion. Guess what I'm saying is that religion shouldn't have to affect how you feel about something, especially if the message touches you. Some messages are just universal, yeh.

I actually got the soundtrack before the movie came out, and when I heard that song, I just knew it would be sung around a bonfire. Lo and behold. :D

The amount of responders saying pretty much the same thing is so awesome and makes me feel happy inside. I still adore that whole film, and there's a lot about religious stories that still inspire my very agnostic self. If the story is truly made well, then there will be some sort of universal appeal, and that's what the whole movie achieves, imo.

This song is the greatest. Even my 16-year-old die hard atheist sister, who often ignores things because they use religious language or symbolism, loves this movie and this song in particular. It's a great film and a fantastic story that people of any faith or creed can enjoy.

Can I also say that I saw this movie in theatres when it came out? (The first day, too.) The animation is perhaps one of the greatest I've seen.

Deliver Us is one of my favorite songs.

I don't believe there's anything after death, nothin' at all, but songs about the ultimate triumph of the human spirit have me /bawling/ and seeing life in new, beautiful ways (things with religious tones, like 'Hymn of Promise' and 'Time and Tide' from Plague Dogs).
