Okay, let's repeat this slowly for all the people who still haven't caught on. Being offended is something subjective. You may be offended by something that does not offend other people. That's your right. You may not be offended by something that other people do find offensive. That's also your right. What's NOT your right is to elevate your personal feeling of being offended or not being offended to some sort of moral guideline of what is appropriate and what is not, what is acceptable to say and what not. Because of, you know, it being SUBJECTIVE.

THIS.

Offense is subjective, yeah, but when enough of the population agrees on something being offensive then there's a kind of standard, you know?

And I do think blackface is one of those things that the ~majority~ does not consider OK.

Enough of the population where? Different countries have different standards. What is generally considered offensivie in one country may be perfectly fine for the majority in another country. Also, even IF the majority finds something offensive, it doesn't mean that every single person who disagrees with that is racist, sexist, or whatever else.

There's subjective and then there's this;

From the Japanese movie, Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl

There is no way you can even excuse this. This is just textbook racist.

I think that mostly just shows how Japan doesn't really understand the implications behind doing such things. They clearly don't understand why that would be considered so offensive to a black audience. Does that make it OK? God no! But I doubt they're aiming to offend or humiliate a certain racial group with these sorts of things. Japan isn't exactly what you'd call the most racially sensitive country in the world. They don't really see outside their own culture and simply don't understand.

It sort of reminds me of the reason behind religious symbols being so popular in Japan. Many wear religious accessories because they think they are "cool", without knowing much of the history and culture behind such items.
