I disliked Theon long before he betrayed the Starks. I always thought he was a douche and a jerk. Not a bad guy, just a thoroughly unpleasant person. I definitly felt sorry for him in ADwD, but that doesn't make me -like- him any better than before, nor does it make me forgive him for the things he did. I loved his chapters, though, they were definitely interesting. I always found Theon's storyline boring as hell, but now I'm actually curious to see what will happen to him. Part of me hopes Stannis will give him a quick death, it would be mercy at this point. But I very much doubt it. So, yeah, I don't see a redemption arc or anything, nor do I suddenly like in. But as harsh as it sounds, ADwD finally turned Theon into a more interesting character for me. :/

I'm waiting for Asha to do whatever incredibly kickass thing she has to do to get back to the Iron Isles and make Theon declare the crowning of the new king unjust, even though I really don't wait Theon to be king of anything. (Then again, weak and infirm isn't really something the Iron Born go for, so I'm not seeing them crowning him). Or did I completely misunderstand that subtext?

But Asha was so in favour of the kingsmoot, it would look rather dumb for her not to accept its outcome. I don't know what I want to happen to Theon. A quick death would be the easy way, but that's unlikely. I feel like he has something important to do in the North ... just no idea what, considering the shape he's in.

No, I know Asha can't say anything against the kingsmoot. But she can get Theon to, since he's the only legitimate option that happened to be completely missing for the procedings. And, actually, I'd be for Theon being king if it meant that the Iron Born team up with Stannis, and get their remaining ships busy smashing the hell out of the Lannister/Frey/Highgarden alliance. Which I could see being the avenue the Greyjoy siblings use to get Theon on the throne. Like, look guys, Euron buggered off and there's still a war, Stannis is going to utterly destroy us if we stand against him, lets join up and go pillage the hell out of Lannisport.

True, but I doubt the Ironborn would ever accept Theon as he is now. And I don't think a Stannis/Greyjoy alliance would work out. There's too much bad blood there. Stannis would require the Greyjoys to abandon the Old Way completely, because he would never accept a bunch of pirates raiding his shores (once the war is done, obviously). Stannis also doesn't trust the Greyjoys one bit after two rebellions. And the Greyjoys, especially Victarion (who imo is shaping up to become the most powerful Greyjoy in time), must hate Stannis for defeating and humiliating them. Although pillaging the hell out of Lannisport sounds like fun. Huh. I can see an uneasy alliance for a time, or rather fighting a common enemy for a time, but it would never last.

Agreed that it'd never last. But as the Starks like to tell us, Winter is Coming, and I'd love the Greyjoys to not be wiped out completely and/or to perform awesome acts of destruction upon the ice wights. And since I'm preeeetty sure that the Lannisters and every one in their alliance are in a sinking, doomed ship, I think the Greyjoys stand the best chance with Stannis.

Plus, the Drowned God and R'hollor totally hang out and discuss all the ways their followers like to kill people, while dissing the Seven.

It would probably be a useful alliance against both the Southern craziness alliance and against the Others, but I think it would be one of those alliances where the two partners probably end up fighting each other more than their enemies. Especially now that the majority of Stannis' force is Northmen, who hate the Ironborn with a passion. Not to mention that Stannis is not very understanding on the whole raping&pillaging thing, which is kind of what the Ironborn do during war.

I totally ship Melisandre/Damphair. For all I care they can leave Westeros and have theological discussions on an island somewhere.

Melisandre and Damphair were made for each other.

'Been through hell and survived' is something the Ironborn go for, though, so I think it would depend on how he and Asha spun it.

Yeah, but if you come out of hell weak and broken and incapable of fighting, instead of strengthened ...

True enough. Theon, King of the Ironborn, hm? Hey, he could marry Stannis' daughter to cement the alliance...?

Please. Even if I like Theon a lot better after aDwD, I still don't think any woman deserves the experience of being married to the prick. XD

Maybe Melisandre could get with his uncle though.

Well, she could probably kick his ass if he got out of line, and no one says political marriages have to be fun (especially in Westeros, good gods). Perhaps I'm just amused by the thought that Stannis would be there, all the time, waaatching. (Or having Melisandre watch through her flames, ready to burninate Theon if he did anything wrong. IDK, if Theon did get a crown, he'd have to hook up with some poor, unfortunate soul.)

...Okay, that is amusing. (Particularly the Melisandre idea.) I might be up for that.
