Draco/Hermione is the fourth most popular ship in a fandom that ships EVERYTHING, behind R/Hr, H/Hr and H/D (based on number of fictionalley threads.) There's really no need to keep it a secret, and lots of people multi-ship Hermione.
Unless R/Hr is something you used to have really strong convictions about and you don't know how to feel about these strange, new D/Hr feelings; or your friends are vehemently anti-Draco/Hermione... then I understand, ships are an emotional thing, even to the most reasonable of fans. I'm just saying it's a very popular ship, so it's nothing to be secretive about (well, I mean, not that popularity matters at all, I ship Neville/Hermione along with about four other people on the planet and I'm damn proud of it, but maybe realizing the sheer popularity of this ship might make you feel better if that's the reason.)

Really? That's interesting... I've always thought, without a doubt that Ron/Hermione and Harry/Hermione were the two biggest ships in the HP fandom. Although, that actually makes sense: with something like thread count; well, R/Hr is canon, though not "official" until the end of the series, so the fans have more to discuss, therefore more threads, and less "need" for stories because Ron/Hermione is right there in the book, thus less fanfic. And with ships like H/D and D/Hr, it's the reverse. Or something. Also, I've noticed that D/Hr doesn't really seem to participate in ship wars. I've seen shippers post arguments and stuff for why they like the ship, but never
I've been working on a little project at fictionalley, about ship statistics and stuff, and based on the "how many threads" thing, the top five ships are
1. Ron/Hermione (137 threads)
2. Harry/Draco (8th page of 130th thread)
3. Harry/Hermione (1st page of 130th thread)
4. Draco/Hermione (112)
5. Draco/Ginny (105)

D/G surprised me; I knew it was popular, but I didn't think it was THAT popular, more than Harry/Ginny. Expand the list to Top Ten and you get

Ah Draco/Hermione...maybe it's just because after book three I only watched the movies, that I find Ron/Hermione to be totally wrong (Ron is totally wrong by himself in the movies and i never really liked him at all - heard he might be different in the books though so IDK) .

Draco/Hermione is my favorite ship, and pretty much the only one, in this on and off fandom OP so don't keep it a secret!

I just finished reading Gravity, which was recced to myself and others at the dramione community in a request asking for fics where Draco and Ron are actually friends/friendly, but Draco and Hermione still get together.

I devoured the fic in one night; it's 10 chapters, very well-written IMO. There is a bit of the "Everyone gets paired off" vibe to it, but it's not nearly as bad as canon! :P

I mean, I'm all for stating your opinion, good or bad, on the books, and if someone thinks Harry/Ginny sucks than they have all the right in the world to talk about it, but that's just.... back away from the computer, take some deep breaths, there's more to life than shipping, guys. Don't do something you're going to look back on with embarrassment later.

I heard about that happening, but for Draco/Hermione.... was it just a "canon sucks, boo" thing or was it Harry/Ginny specific, because H/G and D/Hr don't conflict....I really hope that wasn't it, because that would mean we're talking about two different incidents, which means this happened twice... *cringes again*

I actually got into Draco/Hermione after someone posted a secret about a fic here on fandomsecrets. Best thing ever because D/Hr fanfic is made of awesomesauce. It makes for an interesting dynamic, I think.

Anyway, I like to think of it like this: Ron/Hermione in canon and Draco/Hermione in fic. Ship both. Ain't no shame in it! ;)

I don't habitually ship anyone from Harry's generation, but D/Hr is one of the ones I'll go for. Then again, I've always been against R/Hr. I like intellectual chemistry, and theirs is...lacking.

Do Hermione and Draco really have "intellectual chemistry", though? I mean, Hermione's brilliant and Draco....I'm not much of a Draco fan so my information might be faulty, but the only class I remember hearing about him doing well in was Potions, because Snape favored him. Other than that, all his insults seem to come down to "Weasley, you're poor and your mom's fat" "Granger, you're a mudblood" "Potter, you stink", "Longbottom, you're fat and stupid" which aren't really the marks of a particularly witty person.


Does Draco have some genius that I'm too dumb to see? (I'm not trying to attack you or start a shipping war or whatever, I'm genuinely curious- I've seen the "Draco/Hermione as intellectuals" argument many times and I'm not really sure where it comes from.)

D/Hr was one of my first HP pairings (I think D/G was my actual "first")and I've since derived into reading a lot of TR/Hr, which makes even less sense than D/Hr, but somehow I've found really amazing fics for it, so I'm not the only delusional fan around. xD

Might check the recs above, though. :) So long since I read D/Hr.

I remember when I was 13-14 and found the explosion of Draco/Hermione shippers on the Internet I was appalled because I believed that canon pairings were The Only Way. I can kind of see the appeal of D/Hr now even if I still don't ship it.

I remember when I walked out of the theater for Order of the Phoenix shipping Neville/Luna (Neville/Luna, the most tame, fluffy, some-people-consider-it-canon fanon ship ever) and I literally thought "Oh, God,I'm.... one of those people." ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE ohmygoddd I was so dumb. I knew about fandom and shipping, and R/Hr was my OTP cross my heart hope to die, and I thought Harry/Hermione shippers were crazy. Now I'm usually the ones defending them when people call them delusional, and I'd rather hear about what makes a pairing tick and decide if I like it than argue over what will be canon.

But yeah, I can see the appeal of D/Hr, it's the whole rivals-in-love thing, I understand why people are drawn to that. I don't ship it, but I get why it's so popular.

Meeeee too! Sometimes I feel extra guilty about it though. I really enjoyed Ron/Hermione's development the most out of all the HP pairs, but Draco/Hermione is way to much fun to completely ignore.
