Its O.K. to hate them.

As much as I love Lenalee, I can see why she would be disliked for reasons other than "ruining the yaoi ship". She had troubling flaws, cries a lot, etc. I'm sure you have valid reasons.

But most of the fans I've interacted with who've disliked Lenalee, they all hate her for ruining the gay love. Maybe its a vocal minority, but its such a strong voice that the Lenalee fans get just as defensive. I wish the DGM fandom wasn't so divided in this way, it makes it hard for us to even discuss her without there being a fight.

I respect your decision to hate her, but I hope you can remain tolerant to those who like her too. We're all reading the same manga together, right?

She had troubling flaws, cries a lot, etc.

I agree that she does have flaws and cry quite a bit, and that there are valid reasons out there which a person can have for disliking her.

To go off on a tangent here, often I find that people focus on the crying in a troubling way, though, which doesn't take account of why she's crying and pastes on reasons which indicate a lack of thought on their part. (Such as..."she's crying to get sympathy from the guys! And that's why I hate her." or something like that, which is ridiculous) and it's also particularly annoying when someone claims they hate her just because she cries a lot, but they're a person who also adores Allen, who cries about the same amount in the manga as she does.

Someone counted the number of times a while ago and put it in a fandom secret, and Allen and Lenalee were tied in first place for the amount of times they had cried during the series. I saw someone get called out on that double standard once, and they said something to the effect of "Uh, when Lenalee cries it's because she's a whiny bitch who only wants attention, whereas when Allen cries, it's because of the pure manly feelings of love and sadness in his heart." Yeeaaahh.

I'm the anon who posted before, and you're right....I kind of forgot myself writing that, haha.

I love Lenalee and Allen both because they aren't afraid to bare their feelings.

But I guess since the OP never mentioned their preference with other male characters, I jumped the gun and assumed it was crying related, thinking that he/she might dislike Allen too, for the same reasons.

Also that secret was totally rad, I wish I could find it. Thanks for raising that point, it shows you how deep the double standards go. (even I was doing it! And I love the girl!)

To be fair, most of the characters in that series are highly flawed. Allen has a Messiah complex, Lavi's a sociopath, Kanda is all sorts of antisocial (not to mention a psychological mess from the shit he went through), Miranda has an inferiority complex a mile wide, Krory has MPD with one side being a psychopath and the other with anxiety and inferiority issues... I could go on. Lenalee didn't have an easy childhood and she doesn't live an easy life, so yeah, she's going to be a little messed up - like the entire rest of the Order. The way I see it, she's the most well-adjusted out of the lot of them.

I'm not a fan of either of them but I hate more people like you, who hate female characters that get some screen time because... why? Because there's some fanservice with them just like with any other female character or even more because they're from the main cast?

They're opposites so the reason can't be the same.
Leenalee does more than most female characters, Chrome has good intentions and tries her best and in the end we don't even see her that much. What's so annoying? I can't understand.

I absolutely understand your frustration, but when dealing with character bashers, it's best as a rule to stay waaay up on the high ground. We can't assume straight away that the OP is of the "Prominent female characters, they should die or go to the kitchen where no one can see them!" variety...even though they may give that impression and we've seen such a lot of those types before.

They didn't say they found them irritating for the same reasons, although it is suspicious to conveniently be making a secret about hating two prominent female characters.

This may surprise you, but it actually is possible to dislike some (even the most popular) female characters without being a raging misogynist asshole.

I don't know about the OP, but I'm perfectly capable of disliking both Chrome and Lenalee and liking shit-tons of other female characters at the same time. As characters, Chrome and Lenalee just don't appeal to me and I can't be bothered to pretend to like them just because they're girls. Meanwhile, I really like - for example, these are just a few - Bianchi (KHR), Miranda (DGM), Erza (Fairy Tail), Sakura, Karin & Hinata (Naruto), and pretty much every female character in Gintama ever. I'd love for them to get more screentime.

As for why you can't understand how people can dislike two female characters who have different personalities: it's the same reason people can dislike two male characters (or, you know, RL people) with different personalities. They just do.

I hate it more when people look more at their gender than the characters themselves. If their writing is bad/cliche/uninteresting/rubs me the wrong way, I'm not going to change my opinion based on what's between their imaginary legs.

You may for all I know have a good reason for disliking Lenalee and that other girl (unless you meant the "Ms Fanservice" bit in regard to your own views, in which case you'd better have a hate-on for Allen, Kanda, Tyki, and any other character who's ever seen fanservice too) but a lot of people really don't, and although Lenalee is a popular character, there are still a lot of people out there in the fandom who bash her and many within those who do so for ship-ruining reasons. Just because you may have other reasons doesn't make those people's reasons any less bad.

Lenalee is one of the few shounen manga token chick characters that don't annoy me. I think she's sweet but not sickeningly so.

I liked Lenalee a lot at the beginning.... when she was awesome. But then she lost her boots and became a standard whiny anime chick.... so I hate her too. And I don't like any yaoi pairings in DGM, despite being an avid yaoi fan. *shrug* Go figure.

I disagree with you on that, and it's not as if Lenalee didn't regain her boots. But anyway...

Do you also hate Allen? He lost his arm, and whined about it a lot more than Lenalee ever did. Do you also hate Lavi and Kanda? They lost their weapons too, although it didn't get much of a spotlight.

I like them both, but I sometimes wish that they'd just... do more? I mean, it's fine to me that they're more on the timid side, but I wish the authors would do them more justice. Especially Chrome. I think it's a byproduct of having loads and loads of characters and the guys tending to totally overshadow her coz they're the fandom favourites, but she tends to get shunned a lot, and she seems to get into trouble a lot more than the guys, which is a problem in itself.

tl;dr I love them but I wish the writers would do more with them.

Just a bit puzzled here...how is Lenalee timid? Not to imply that a timid character = a bad character or anything, but I didn't think she was. (With an exception in regard to Inspector Lvellie, but she does have some childhood trauma there.)

It'd be nice to see her do more, although I'd say she has already had a decent amount of page time and activity, and more than any character except Allen and Kanda.

I like them both, btw.
