To each their own, I think it's awesome.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-20 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
problematic. ugh.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-20 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Uh oh. Problematic!

(Anonymous) 2011-08-20 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Elaborate more on "problematic" pl0x.

Problematic?

(Anonymous) 2011-08-20 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
problematic

oh look, the overused SJ buzzword of the year

Maybe the month.

I like the series fine. Love it, in some parts.

BUT THOSE TWO. OMG I love them so much. T_T (Even though I know nothing good can come of it...) They are pretty much my one and only ship for the whole series.

[identity profile] fickletastictot.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Just want to comment that the art is really, really pretty. Ooooh~!

I'm guessing the hype ruined it for you, or it just wasn't your bag to begin with, though I am having trouble thinking of what about Jaime/Cersei is totally different from the general tone of the series. Personally, it was one of those series for me that no amount of hype could ruin, and I'm shaking my head a bit at the inevitable OMG PROBLEMATIC wank.

[identity profile] cold-river-blue.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
the inevitable OMG PROBLEMATIC wank.

Apparently everybody is content with just repeating the word "problematic" and moving on... it's like the bizarro-F!S

Not OP

There were some things that bothered me a little in the book, but mostly it just felt realistic to the society it was partially an analogue of.

The only thing I was bothered by was the inclusion of even more rape/bad touch scenes, and things of that nature being injected into the HBO series to make it ~edgier~.

I do think its misleading to call the entire series "deeply problematic", though.

[identity profile] caffeinefreeddp.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I guess everyone has favorites, right? And in the first book, Jaime and Cersei definitely had some bittersweet, painful, bright thing going on with their general messed-up-edness, but later books...? I want to know what you love, OP, because I'm still sad about what Cersei's POV chapters turned out to be like.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-20 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
+1 (not OP)

I thought that they were interesting in a way, but I couldn't really get engaged with her character at the point, and even though I can see how she became that way, it still felt excessive to me.

Everything is problematic (find me a work of fiction that isn't AT ALL)

but to each their own about the rest. I'M HAPPY YOU LOVE SOMETHING ABOUT IT :D

[identity profile] exmptfromsanity.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
As much as I love a lot of the charcters in these books (and that GRRM's world has it accepted to marry your siblings - at least in some cases) I'm just bothered by the twin thing. As a twin who loves the fantasy genre I just really want a book/series that doesn't have them or doesn't use them as some kind of trope.

I love the whole series, but I definitely love these two: the chemistry, Cersei's need for power and hatred for her sex. The Lannisters are one of the most interesting families in all of Westeros (especially Tyrion).

[identity profile] masked-creator.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
For a moment I thought those were comic drawings of Eowyn and Faramir or Boromir from Lord of the Rings, lol.

[identity profile] stillarium.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
I think everything that is hyped will come across as overrated to some. You just have to enjoy it seperately apart from the hype IMO, but the way you describe it it feels like you don't enjoy the story either way. Anyway, I think it's awesome and I do like the Lannisters, twins and Tyrion. And that is one gorgeous fanart. :X

[identity profile] pts.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Crazy. Me, I think they're terrible people and I hope bad things happen to them.

[identity profile] elica.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
How is it problematic ?

If you read a 5000 page novel series, trust me, comrade, you didn't find it all that overrated or problematic.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-20 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
You know, if you don't like High fantasy and all it's tropes then you shouldn't bother with it. But I'm glad you found something to like.

You know I adore these two separately (lol I've had a very long and complicated journey concerning my feelings for Cersei but that just makes me like her more) but I just can't find it in me to ship them. I think they're going to be the death of each other, actually :(

(Anonymous) 2011-08-23 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
To each his own, but I honestly don't get how you can love these two and think the rest of the story is boring. Maybe it's because I've only seen the show and read the first book, because in A Game of Thrones Jaime and Cersei are really just in the background as little more than mustache-twirling villains. The show gave them a lot more depth by letting them have POV scenes, and I've heard that they become richer characters in later books, so I'm open-minded, I guess. But I don't see how you can watch/read just for them.
