Missing the point entirely, but...

I really hate the concept of "losing" one's virginity. It didn't fall out hole in your pocket or take a run through the washing machine -- in consensual cases, you gave it up.

I move to popularize that phrase. It's more true to what's going on, and it's sweeter if the first time was with someone you really cared about and not a random person to say "I gave [Jack or Jill] my virginity" than to say "I lost it to him/her."

Yeah, the phrase "lost my virginity" makes me think they lost it between the couch cushions or something and now they're looking for it, because it's lost.

I usually say "X had their first time with Y."

Ever heard the phrase 'if it's not broke don't fix it?' Or alternately, 'pick your battles'?

Seriously, you've got nothing better to think about?

OK, seriously? First, one thought does not preclude the existence of other thoughts. Second, the mere existence of my original comment should be enough to indicate that "lose it" IS kind of a "broken" way to refer one's first time. Third, I wasn't aware expressing an opinion and suggesting an alternative was akin to suiting up and running into battle, or that -- if it were -- it would be such an all-encompassing feat that I should think long and hard over.

In short, chill out.

And for those who didn't give it away? Are they allowed to say they lost it or what? Maybe people like that term because it doesn't differentiate between consensual and non-consensual sex making it easier for those who had theirs "stolen" to talk about it casually. What are they supposed to say if not "lost it". "Someone took my virginity by force"? Cause that won't be awkard at all. >.>

Read the comment again. Clearly I am talking about consensual sex. So stop grinding your axe on me.

I know. Hence my comment. If we use different words to differentiate between vriginity taken by force and virginity given consensually it's hella awakrd for everyone who was raped. It means they have to either lie and say it was consensual, lie and say they're a virgin when they don't feel like one OR say they were raped and ruin everyone's day because of a simplye question. Why is that nescassary when we already have a word that everyone understands and uses?

Funny, I wouldn't call virginity status questions simple things that are trotted out by pollsters and random people on the street. Or even friends. Do you frequently head to parties where the conversation turns to "Hey, everybody! Wehen and how did you first have sex!" It's NOT a simple question. It's a personal question with history, whether you gave it up or had it taken from you.

But this is getting ridiculous. Because nowhere did I say "We need to BAN THIS PHRASE FOREVER!!!" I said, paraphrasing, obviously, "this one is nicer, so let's try using it." It's not like one comment on the internet obligates the world to follow it.

Yes. Oh, yes. I most certainly do. I'm 19 and starting when I was 13 that's been a standard question on parties/when people get drunk. Play truth or dare? It comes up. I've never type of games? Without question. Maybe I grew up differently than you, but in locker rooms, parties, places with alcohol it's a pretty standard question.

That having been said I'm not particularly involved in this either. You came up with an opinion and I disagreed that it's a good idea. That's all. It's a public forum, if you don't want replies then don't comment.

I never said I "didn't want replies" but if it makes you feel all grown up to school me on internet commentry, more power to you.
