Side-eyeing this secret so much rn. This is why I was never a part of the HP fandom. Your kids probably won't like the same things you do and will come to love something as much as you love the Harry Potter series. This shouldn't be terrifying and it's to be expected.

...You were never a part of the HP fandom for the sole reason that you were frightened you might one day be frightened of your children not liking the same seris as you, or there are so many people in the HP fandom with that specific problem that you couldn't bear to be in the same fandom as them?

I would've thought the HP fandom had scarier downsides to it than just that. It's a big fandom, and I'd be disappointed if that was the very worst it had to offer.

I guess it's the touch of fanaticism which comes with it and is an example of some of the craziness of some HP fans. Not just this specific case but the fact that some HP fans out there take things far too far.

And HP fandom is one of the craziest fandoms out there- I wouldn't put this on the level of marrying Snape on the astral plane or sending threats to a creator for shipping reasons but it's still pretty stupid.

OP is talking about being 'terrified' of this- not just disappointed, 'terrified'. Which is just absolutely crazy and idiotic.

No, I've just always been turned off by how OTT they're about everything HP-related. I've been friends with a selected part of the fandom that can criticize the series and recognize its flaws while still like it and doesn't think is 'da best series of our ~generation~!1!'.

I hope I'm never scared in the slightest that my kids might come to show disinterest or even dislike something I really love. That's usually how life works.
