... I don't mean to be dismissive of what I'm sure is an incredibly strong emotion for you, but I find it ridiculously patronising that you "feel sad" for me just because I don't agree that Hedwig is Harry's "closest and truest" friend. Sure, Hedwig was loyal, but also she was a minor character and Harry had some pretty awesome friends.

It's just, like, different strokes, y'know? You feel sad Hedwig died and you're entitled to feel that way. I don't, but it doesn't mean I can't understand love or whatever. :\

Yeah, mileage varies. I've never grieved over a pet. That's not a reason to pity me, I just have different feelings and priorities from somebody who does.

I wouldn't say you don't understand love. But I'd definitely say you don't understand the love people can hold for a pet.

I mean, seriously, you don't have i>any sadness for Hedwig's death? Hedwig might have been a minor character in the books, but that doesn't mean she was a minor part of Harry's life. She was the only one he had during the Summer holidays, the only one who loved him when nobody else did. Yes, Harry had some awesome friends, but Hedwig wasn't competing against them. She was ONE of them.

I think that warrants at least a slight amount of sadness, regardless of whether you are an animal person or not. It just comes off as incredibly douchey to not care at all.
