Of course I'm never one to see this because I'm on par of a social outcast on Tumblr and LJ to be able to compare the fandom in both...
But Tumblr is really good for sharing fanart from Pixiv

That's pretty much the reason I hate tumblr and the BNFs there.
Fandom was more active and less lazy (in short: better, at least for me) when fame was gained with someone's own work instead of reposting others people work.

I agree. 4chan, terrible otherwise, has always been great for fan art. The difference is that no one gains undeserved fame from it.

What are you talking about? The kink meme is very active and each week there will be 200+ comments on the episode discussion post. As for fanfics, I get more hits, comments and kudos from this fandom than I do from any of my other fandoms, including Yuletide fics.

On the other hand, I've tried Tumblr before for T&B but all I found was re-posted art from Pixiv and macros.

I see the same thing. After every episode, I always check the LJ watch post because of the interesting discussion there, and the kink meme has so much great stuff on it. Tumblr is great for Pixiv stuff and I really enjoy all of the gifs I've seen on Tumblr, though, so I think it has it's own unique purposes. I feel that with T&B fandom, LJ and Tumblr all help to create a really full fandom experience by doing different things and complimenting each other.

Agreed. I'm old fogey McDinosaurus Rex and all but I don't buy the idea that text-based fandom will or can ever be "replaced" by just images. More of a split happening, sure, and the people who are more interested in that side of things drifting away from the fic/discussion stuff if they were never that interested in the first place, but there's always going to be a place for fic and discussion.

I think the fandom will be more active in terms of producing/paying attention to fics and stuff when the series is over and we're all waiting for the new season/movie/OVA and we have time to kind of process everything and explore a bit. I see a LOT of fanworks for this series, though, and the LJ comm seems very active.

Oh man, I hope you're right. I'm sorta terrified that it'll be like so many other Western anime fandoms -- once the series is finished, the fandom just goes poof.

Usually I'd be worried about that, too, but I don't think it's finished by a long shot and we're going to be getting more material for a while _{just please don't fuck it up, Sunrise}. That and even after it is all over, it feels like the kind of thing that might have some staying power.

I agree about how Tumblr kind of makes a mess of the fandom experience just in general, but I also think, anon, that you might be overestimating the overall popularity of Tiger and Bunny. I'm a big fan but it still seems like a larger-sized niche fandom to me.

There are quite a few really dedicated fans but it's not some kind of big cultural anime watershed fandom or anything. It might become that eventually, if this season doesn't end up a total disaster of >:Fail and if the second season is at all good, but give it time. Niche fandoms take a while to grow and will never garner the support of other bigger anime fandoms, like how big FMA fandom used to be in its heyday.

Are you talking about the online fandom on the west? Because it's apparent that it's very popular in Japan. I mean, Christ, they're showing the final episode in theatres all over the country and having a special event, and that doesn't usually happen for any show, let alone a six month old series.

That's interesting. I confess, I'm not a follower of T&B, but I was under the strong impression it was the It Thing of the moment. Over the summer almost every anime fan I know got into it, and I have a big flist.

Ehh its all good imo *shrug* I love going on tumblr to look at pics and read the goodies posted by the T&B rpers I follow. The comm on LJ has its own perks, mostly the fic for me.

Hmm, if you visit forums or even browse through /a/ there's usually some T&B discussion. Fics are kind of a weird thing, because the only places I know to find them are AO3/kink meme/LJ. There's a bunch of crossposting that goes on after people deanon, so that might contribute to people commenting less. And fanart often gets lots of reviews in fandoms anyway.

The kink meme is weird, because I've poked my head in there recently and there's a disparity between the number of fills to prompts. My experience with Part 1 was that it was very active, but Part 2 seems not quite as?

While tumblr is great for T&B reblogs, as someone who prefers LJ/forums the fandom experience isn't really all that limited. I noticed what I find on pixiv, /a/, animesuki, blogs, and LJ are all stuff that shows up at tumblr later on. Even the fanartists on tumblr usually have their own sites or repost here so it's not that bad!

Now you mention it, it's the first time I see a fandom where people de-anon their kink meme fics so much.
Usually they don't do it so formally, they admit it to a close circle of friend and that's it, they don't go and post on the comm so much.

And as for the popularity of part 2, well I used to write a lot in Part1 and somehow got stuck in a huge writer's block.
I know at least one other author who wrote quite a lot too who appears to be in the same situation.
Then came summer vacations, and then most people went back to school, the timing is just bad, it'll pick up again!

This is exactly what I meant when I meantioned the kink meme. I can't understand why, but it seems like people have lost a lot of interest in it; besides, the decreased number of new fics on the kink meme doesn't correspond to an increase of the fics posted in the comm that aren't just de-anoning fills, so...
